Michelin Malaysia Debuts New SUV-Spec Primacy 5 Tyre Lineup

The Michelin Primacy 5 range has since been expanded to suit both ICE and electrified SUV models.

Michelin Malaysia has recently announced an expansion of its Primacy 5 range to now include SUV fitments, catering to both internal combustion and electric vehicles. This comes just over a year since the touring tyre was first launched locally, and aims to capitalise on the rapid rise of both segments over here.

Now what makes this SUV-specific variant of the Michelin Primacy 5 particularly relevant is the added reinforcement. These heavier-duty tyres feature strengthened sidewalls that not only improve vehicle stability but also offer better resistance against impacts, which is good to have on the less-than-perfect road surfaces in Malaysia.

As with any Michelin tyre though, refinement hasn’t been sacrificed in the process. The Primacy 5 still delivers what it calls a Premium Comfort Drive, with its Silent Rib Gen-3 technology helping it rank highly in cabin quietness.

On the safety front meanwhile, the Primacy 5 is said to offer up to 16% shorter wet braking distances, whether new or worn, thanks to a combination of EverGrip, EverTread and Functional Elastomers 3.0 technologies. It has also reportedly achieved top rankings in wet moose testing, reinforcing its credentials in challenging driving conditions.

Michelin is also keen to highlight the longevity of its Primacy 5 tyre. Its MaxTouch technology ensures that forces from acceleration, braking and cornering are distributed more evenly, helping to extend tyre life without compromising overall performance. Or in other words, fewer tyre changes over time.

Finally on the efficiency front, the Primacy 5 features a high-performance tread compound that is claimed to reduce rolling resistance by up to 10%. This naturally improves fuel efficiency for ICE cars, but more importantly helps extract a few extra kilometres of driving range for EVs.

Globally, the Primacy 5 has already picked up multiple accolades, including the 2025 Auto Magazine Best Tire Award and a win in Tekniikan Maailma’s summer tyre test.

The expanded Michelin Primacy 5 range is now available locally in a whopping 76 sizes, covering 16- to 22-inch wheels. Prices in Malaysia start from RM 467 and go up to RM 1,639, with availability at authorised dealers nationwide.
