A cheaper, sportier Subaru Forester has just been launched locally.
Subaru has just unveiled a new spec of Forester over here in Malaysia. Known as the Forester GT Lite Edition, this new variant follows on from the launch of the popular GT Edition that was launched last year.
An upgrade to the existing 2.0 i-L trim level, the main highlight of this new spec of Forester is that it brings with it a sportier and more rugged exterior aesthetic, courtesy of a GT full body kit which includes chromed front and rear bumper extensions, along with shiny side skirts, a roof spoiler and a larger exhaust tailpipe. Other exterior highlights worth a mention on this particular variant of Subaru SUV includes the 17-inch snowflake pattern alloy wheels, halogen front fog lamps and LED front and rear light clusters.
On the inside meanwhile, the Forester GT Lite Editions features much the same kit as before. Them being an 8-inch central infotainment touchscreen, leather upholstery, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, cruise control and a 360º Around View Monitor System.
Moving under the hood, no turbo power here as this particular Forester retains the same FB20 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated flat-four which outputs a reasonable 156 PS and 193 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a Lineartronic CVT and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system that comes with the usual SI-Drive (Subaru Intelligent Drive) system, Active Torque Vectoring as well as X-Mode.
As for safety, the Forester GT Lite comes with the usual brace of passive safety features like Vehicle Dynamics Control, ABS and Hill Descent Control, not to mention 7 airbags. The same Subaru 5-year/100,000 km factory warranty continues to be offered as standard for further peace of mind motoring.
In essence then, this new GT Lite Edition Forester is much like its outgoing model just with a factory bodykit installed. Priced at RM 163,788 (including SST exemption), this new Subaru SUV is currently available to order with a choice of 7 exterior colours: Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Jasper Green Metallic, Horizon Blue Pearl, Sepia Bronze Metallic, Dark Grey Metallic and Crystal Black Silica.
