The Singaporean debut of Zeekr is currently earmarked for the second quarter of 2024.
While Geely has penetrated Malaysia by way of Proton and more recently smart, the Chinese automaker has decided to instead make at entrance in our neighbours down south with something slightly more upmarket. Such is because it has recently been reported that Zeekr will soon be entering the Singaporean market later this year, with its premiere lineup supposedly consisting of the 009 MPV and X compact crossover.
The first international right-hand drive market that it will enter (with Hong Kong and Macau being its actual first RHD export destinations), Zeekr is currently planning to begin sales of its vehicles over in the city state come the first half of 2024. First deliveries however has instead been earmarked to only begin from the third quarter of 2024.
Zeekr has recently signed a partnership agreement with Singaporean Audi retailer Premium Auto in establishing their commercial presence over there, with its first showroom presently under construction at the Leng Kee district. As for the all-important question of the prices of its cars meanwhile, it has been reported for its lineup to be priced more competitively than their comparable German counterparts from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Now for those who might still be unfamiliar with the Zeekr brand, they are in essence the premium all-electric subsidiary of Geely. The two models that will make up the launch lineup for the marque in Singapore consists of the X compact crossover and 009 MPV, which are in essence a differently-styled smart #1 and Volvo EM90 respectively.
Having begun its international expansion back in 2023, Zeekr has since landed in Europe at the end of last year with its debut deliveries of the 001 beginning in the Netherlands last month. The Chinese EV marque is meanwhile currently aiming to expand its reach into six European countries in 2024, and then a subsequent two more regions worldwide in 2025.
To answer perhaps the more pertinent to Malaysians though, it is unfortunately highly unlikely for Zeekr to ever be making its debut across the causeway anytime soon at least. Such is partially because Geely already has its hands full over here through its dealings with Proton, and more recently smart as well.
In fact, Zeekr is not to be the only Geely subsidiary that will likely be exclusive to Singapore for the foreseeable future. Polestar after all has still yet to arrive over here in Malaysia, despite being rather popular EV choice in the tiny island nation.
