The Yangwang Altior Is BYD’s Answer To The Rolls-Royce Ghost

This ultra-luxurious Yangwang flagship sedan is set to make its world debut in Dubai in a couple of weeks.
Something spooky is brewing for Rolls-Royce this Halloween, as BYD has teased an ultra-luxurious new flagship sedan that appears to have the British marque’s Ghost firmly in its sights. Dubbed the Yangwang Altior, this upcoming model takes its name from the Latin word for “higher”, which seems rather fitting for a car that aims to showcase what the Chinese automaker can really do in the ultra-luxury space.
BYD has released just two teaser images of the Altior so far, with the first revealing an imposing silhouette that looks rather familiar to anyone acquainted with the Roller’s stately proportions. The car also appears to feature Rolls-Royce-style rear-hinged coach doors, flanked by massive monoblock alloy wheels, while a roof-mounted lidar sensor peeks out from the front of the roof.
The second teaser meanwhile offers a closer look at the Altior’s front fascia, where a pair of elaborately crystalline C-shaped headlights frame a rather spangly grille. BYD says the design takes inspiration from an ancient Chinese bronze cauldron, with the grille’s sparkling appearance also tying in with the meaning of the second character in the car’s Chinese name, Dingyao, which translates to “sparkle”.

Reports currently put the Altior at around 5.5 metres long, with a 3.35-metre wheelbase, making it slightly shorter than the standard-wheelbase Rolls-Royce Ghost. Technical specifications remain under wraps for now, though industry rumours suggest the Altior could serve as the showcase for BYD’s first production application of solid-state battery technology.
The Yangwang Altior is set to make its world debut in Dubai in early November, with its eventual launch in China reportedly carrying a price tag of around 2 million yuan (RM 1.2 million). While there is currently no word on whether this rather atas BYD will make its way to Malaysia, its expected price tag would likely see it waved straight through by the tax man without much fuss.
