New Mk8 Volkswagen Golf GTI has just launched in Malaysia
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has just released the all-new Mk8 Golf GTI at the Sepang International Circuit. The automaker first revealed the all-new Golf GTI a few months ago alongside the Golf R-Line. This new model has been long overdue and many Golf GTI enthusiasts have been waiting for it.
The new Mk8 Golf GTI will be locally assembled at Pekan. This is the first time that the GTI is assembled outside of Germany and China.
Although it has an upgraded look, it still maintains the DNA of the original GTI in its exterior and interior. Just like its previous models, the new GTI is immediately noticeable with its signature honeycomb front grille and red trims. It features 18-inch Richmond alloy wheels with red brake callipers, full LED headlamps and taillights. Despite being a hatchback, the GTI offers up to 374 litres of boot space available.
Under the bonnet, the GTI is equipped with a 2.0TSI turbocharged engine mated with a 7-speed wet clutch DSG that produces 245PS and 370Nm of torque. It promises a fuel consumption rate of 7 liters per 100km.
The interior of the GTI features Volkswagen’s Driver Workspace with a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit with multiple color themes and views, a multifunction steering wheel with haptic-touch control and heating. Not to mention, an advanced 10-inch Discover Media infotainment system with built-in navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Some extra convenient features that Volkswagen have added include the Vehicle Dynamics Manager system with multiple driving personalization modes, ambient lighting with up to 30 color options, 3-zone climatronic air con, Tyre Pressure Loss indicator and quick entry access within a key detection radius.
The new hatchback has been built for safety with high-quality steel that is engineered to provide maximum protection during an accident. Other safety features include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Post Collision Braking System that prevents a second collision, Electronic Differential Lock (XDS) that improves traction and reduce understeer as well as six airbags.
The all-new Mk8 Volkswagen Golf GTI retails at RM211,689.54 with the current tax exemption. It comes with three years maintenance, five years of unlimited mileage warranty and five years roadside assistance.
It comes in five different colors: Kings Red and Atlantic Blue in metallic finishing, Moonstone Grey for non-metallic option, as well as Deep Black and Oryx White with pearl effect at no additional charges.
By the looks of it, the new Mk8 Volkswagen Golf GTI might seem a little overpriced for what its offering. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how well it does in Malaysia.
