New Volkswagen Golf R-Line bookings are now available

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has just opened bookings for the all-new Golf R-Line. The car has been set at a price between RM155,000 to RM165,000. It was launched alongside the Golf GTI Mk8, and both cars will be locally assembled at Pekan, Malaysia. It marks the first time a Volkswagen Golf being assembled here in Malaysia

First teased alongside the Golf GTI Mk8 a few months ago, the new R-Line is powered by a 1.4TSI turbocharged engine mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine is capable of producing 150PS and 250Nm of torque. Unlike older Golf’s, Volkswagen have decided to remove its signature DSG dual-clutch on the R-Line.

As the all-new Golf pays homage to its heritage, it emerges as the most progressive generation yet with improved performance, enhanced digitalisation, and more intuitive controls.  The changes are most noticeable in its clean and contemporary look.

Its exterior features a leaner front grille, narrow LED headlights and an imposing bumper that lends an assured stance to the striking new model. 17-inch Valencia alloy wheels complete the look and is exclusive to the R-Line bodykit.

Overall, its quite difficult to distinguish the R-Line and the new Golf GTI Mk8 as they both look very similar.

The R-Line’s interior has a sporty theme with its front sport seats fitted in Sardegna fabric and Art Velours side bolsters for added comfort. There even lies an R-Line logo on the headrest of the seat.

The cabin has also been redesigned, with most physical buttons and controls removed and in exchanged with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Other features include a multifunctioning steering wheel with haptic touch control, an advanced 10-inch Discover Media infotainment system with navigation and a gear selector.

In terms of safety, the R-Line isn’t equipped with any Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or ADAS, which is odd as nowadays most of the cheaper cars come with it. The vehicle still comes with the usual six airbags, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) though.

Colour choices for the new R-Line include Moonstone Grey, a metallic Kings Red, Atlantic Blue in metallic finishing, as well as Deep Black and Oryx White with pearl effect.

VPCM supports with aftersales care through three years free maintenance, five years unlimited mileage warranty, and five years roadside assistance.
