Will Honda Malaysia and Mazda in Malaysia be worried with the arrival of this all new Toyota SUV which competes head on with the super popular Honda CR-V and the best selling Mazda CX-5? Well, both are established vehicles with Honda being the segment leader and the longest running name plate.
Mazda only emerged in the last few years and the Korean rivals, Sportage and Tucson are only denting the segment slightly. Proton marketers think that their popular X70 SUV has what it takes to worry Toyota and this is really not the case as the price difference is almost 90 percent higher, which means it targets a more affluent consumer.

The All-New Toyota RAV4, a fifth generation, is developed with Dynamic Force Engine and on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform which provide a new level of powerful performance and better driving experience to meet today’s customers’ expectations.
The Premium SUV also comes with impressive Toyota Safety Sense features such as Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) for All Speed as well as Automatic High Beam (AHB).

The first-generation RAV4 debuted in 1994, when body-on-frame four-wheel drive vehicles were positioned as off-road vehicles. The RAV4 would go on to play a pivotal role in the development of a new market for the passenger-friendly sport utility vehicle (SUV/crossover SUV). New models continue to be launched in the ever-expanding crossover SUV market.
Based on creating a “Robust Accurate Vehicle with 4 Wheel Drive,” the RAV4 has been a best seller all over the world, except Malaysia where the last time a brand new RAV4 was made available for sale was almost 20 years ago and it was sold in limited numbers only.
At the time it was fully imported as there was no local assembly for the RAV4 in ASEAN and Toyota’s product planning department in ASEAN was more interested in marketing its Fortuner 7-seat SUV, which was their success story.
Now, with the huge rise in SUV sales in ASEAN, the Toyota RAV4 is returning officially to Malaysia this year. Yes, this launch as been delayed by the late arrival of the NAP 2020 and also the current COVID-19 lockdown.
