The Polestar/CAKE Makka e-Bike Can Charge As It Is Towed

If only this simplistic e-Bike could fit into the boot of a Polestar 2 motocompo style instead.

Polestar may still very much be finding its feet in the auto market these days, but this upstart EV manufacturer has nevertheless rather ambitiously been fervently expanding into products with less than four wheels too. This is after all the company that revealed the wacky Re:Move three-wheeled electric transporter concept late last year after all, and more recently has partnered with Scandinavian electric bike makers CAKE to launch its own line of limited-edition e-bikes.

Dubbed the Makka – Polestar edition by CAKE, the name itself should be clear to anyone that the bones of this e-bike itself is to be largely the same as the all-electric two-wheeler of the same name revealed by CAKE just last week. Then again though, Polestar themselves didn’t exactly just slap their name on someone else’s product and called it a day.

So starting from the front therefore, differentiating these Polestar-fied e-bikes from its standard siblings from CAKE are the fitment of a slimmer LED headlight. These special Makkas also come finished in Polestar Snow matte with black detailing, as well as a bespoke gold-painted Öhlins rear damper that will perfectly complement the set shocks featured on any Polestar 2 with the optional Performance package.

And in speaking of the Polestar 2 meanwhile, the really nifty feature about these e-bikes that has been the main talking point is their ability to be charged while being carried on the optional rear tow bar of this EV. That way, the Makka will be fully topped-up and ready to roll as ‘a last mile commuter, general urban transport solution or even for off-road adventures’.

“Makka – Polestar edition by CAKE is the next step in our brand collaboration and it gives us a chance to tackle broader mobility challenges. The lightweight bike connects with Polestar 2 via a cord that allows it to charge from our car, ready to tackle inner cities as well as explore the countryside,” says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “Together with brands like CAKE, we are building momentum towards a more sustainable future.”

“Instead of wasting time in a traffic jam, finding a parking spot or squashing up in a crowded train, together with the team at Polestar we want to make the future of mobility flexible, accessible and emission-free – while aiming to create cities for people, not for cars that pollute,”says CAKE CEO and founder, Stefan Ytterborn.

Set to be the flagship product in the new Polestar Additionals web shop that is launching later this year, there is unfortunately no firm price yet on how much these e-bikes will cost. The standard Cake Makka moped however is set to start at around €3,500 (RM 17,000), and come with 3.6 kW of power as well as a battery capacity of 1.5 kWh.

PRESS RELEASE: Polestar and CAKE have revealed their first collaboration on a special version of the new CAKE Makka compact electric bike. The Makka – Polestar edition by CAKE makes its debut at the 2021 IAA in Munich. Based on CAKE’s newest bike platform, the Makka – Polestar edition by CAKE has unique design, component features and upgrades that further align the brands’ shared desire to accelerate the shift towards sustainable mobility.

The lightweight electric bike is specifically designed to be even more versatile when used in combination with Polestar 2. A rear tow bar mount allows the bike to be transported and charged directly from the car while on the move. Once parked, the bike can be used as a last mile commuter, general urban transport solution or even for off-road adventures.

Makka – Polestar edition by CAKE is a bespoke version of the new bike with numerous styling and changes: a slim LED headlight, Öhlins rear damper, black detailing and a frame and battery cover in Polestar Snow matte. Fully electric powertrains by CAKE and minimalistic design features by Polestar link the brands and vehicles even further.

The bike will be a flagship product in the new Polestar Additionals web shop, which launches at the same time to a wider audience following an initial exclusive pre-launch for the Polestar community earlier in the summer. The web shop will feature lifestyle products like t-shirts, hoodies, bags and water bottles, as well as Makka – Polestar edition by CAKE.
