Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Surpasses 2 Million Sales in China

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV has surpassed two million cumulative sales in China, marking another milestone for the country’s small electric car segment. SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) confirmed the achievement after its 2,000,000th unit rolled off the production line on 20 October 2026.
The milestone came 76 months after the model first launched in July 2020. Its original starting price was RMB 28,800 (approximately RM16,900).
SGMW also reported that the Hongguang Mini EV has remained China’s best-selling A00-class electric car for 74 consecutive months. The company added that 78% of its owners have customised their vehicles.
Since its introduction, the model has expanded into several variants. These include the pastel-coloured Macaron introduced in 2021, followed by the GameBoy and Cabrio in 2022. A second-generation model arrived in February 2025.

The current four-door, four-seat version launched in March 2026. It measures 3,268mm long and has a 2,190mm wheelbase. Power comes from a 30kW electric motor, while its LFP battery options provide claimed CLTC ranges of 205km and 301km.
Prices for the current model range from RMB 44,800 to RMB 54,800 (approximately RM26,300 to RM32,100). A trade-in subsidy can lower the starting price to RMB 42,800 (approximately RM25,100).
The Hongguang Mini EV recorded its strongest sales performance in 2022, when it sold approximately 554,000 units. Its highest monthly sales figure reached 55,729 units.
However, sales have weakened considerably in 2026. The decline comes as China’s A00-class electric vehicle segment contracts. The country also reduced its purchase tax exemption from 1 January 2026.
Between January and September 2026, the Hongguang Mini EV recorded 107,920 sales. This represents a year-on-year decline of more than 60%.
Despite the recent slowdown, the model’s two-million-unit milestone highlights its position in China’s affordable electric vehicle market.
