GWM Malaysia has completed the first locally assembled ORA 5 Hi2 HEV at the EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) plant in Melaka. The milestone comes ahead of the hybrid SUV’s Malaysian launch, scheduled for November 2026.
Bookings opened nationwide on 5 October, with an estimated selling price below RM115,000. GWM will announce the final price, Malaysian-market specifications and ownership benefits during the official launch.
The ORA 5 Hi2 HEV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor. The hybrid system produces a combined 223 PS and 476 Nm of torque. It uses a 2-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission.
GWM claims fuel consumption of 4.4 litres per 100km and a total driving range exceeding 1,100km. The hybrid system does not require external charging.
The ORA 5 has also received several international awards and recognitions. It won the Design of the Year award at the 2025 London Design Awards. It also received the Best Interior Design Award in the Family Car category at TADA 2026.
Additionally, the ORA 5 HEV recorded fuel consumption of 3.74 litres per 100km over a 3,004km journey. This earned it a Guinness World Records title for the lowest fuel consumption driving to all directly administered municipalities in China by a hybrid electric production SUV.
The first locally assembled unit follows GWM Malaysia’s localisation commitment announced at the Global Automotive and Technology Expo 2026. The ORA 5 Hi2 HEV joins the locally assembled HAVAL H6 HEV and WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV and HEV.
GWM Malaysia has assembled more than 10,000 vehicles locally. More than 1,100 locally assembled WEY G9 units have also been exported to Thailand and Indonesia.
The company said the latest assembly milestone supports its wider localisation strategy. This includes local production, operations, workforce development and supply chain integration.
The rollout also coincides with GWM Malaysia’s fourth anniversary. Under the theme ‘GROW WITH MALAYSIA: Together We Grow. Together We Go.’, the company is marking four years of operations with several customer promotions.
Customers who purchase a GWM vehicle in November or December 2026 can enter a lucky draw to win an ORA 5 Hi2 HEV. The winner will be announced in January 2027.
Separate monthly lucky draws in November and December will offer a combined prize pool of up to RM100,000. GWM is also offering year-end benefits across its model range. These include financing rates from 0.08%, benefits worth up to RM17,000, insurance and trade-in support, extended warranties and complimentary maintenance.
The anniversary campaign also includes nationwide GWM Open House Weekenders, featuring test drives and customer activities.
GWM Malaysia is introducing special anniversary editions of the HAVAL H6 HEV and TANK 500. These editions feature distinctive black finishes, selected exterior enhancements and additional telematics features. Specific equipment and connected functions vary by model.
