Tata Motors Returns To Malaysia This 2026
Tata Motor is in negotiations to return with a new established Malaysian partner

Industry discussions and reports from 2023 suggest that Tata Motors might be considering a revival in the Malaysian passenger car market, with the Harrier SUV being a potential candidate. However, this remains speculative and there are no confirmed launch dates for any new passenger models
Tata Motors is currently present in the Malaysian market in the commercial vehicle segment (trucks and pick-ups) and has no confirmed immediate plans to launch passenger cars “very soon”.
Commercial Vehicles: Tata Motors, in partnership with DRB-HICOM Commercial Vehicles (DHCV), re-entered the Malaysian commercial vehicle market in 2015 and currently sells models like the Super Ace, 8 and 10 Tonner Ultra trucks, and Prima prime movers.
While there have been discussions and market speculation about Tata possibly re-entering the passenger car segment with models like the Tata Nexon or Harrier, there has been no official announcement or confirmed release date for any passenger vehicles. In 2015, it was explicitly stated that there were “no plans to venture into passenger vehicles for now”.
Few Malaysians are familiar with the Tata Harrier, but some of us have heard of it a couple of times. While I had heard of the car a couple of times before, it never really registered on my radar. After all, Tata was a car brand that had tried and failed to penetrate the Malaysian market before. Their Xenon pick-up truck is the closest thing to a passenger vehicle we’ve seen them sell here, and that thing is barely competitive as a commercial vehicle.
In summary, you will see Tata passenger cars in Malaysia “very soon,” as the company’ looks to building a strong network with this Malaysian auto group that handles luxury and mid-segment vehicles.
More will be shared in coming weeks once we get the go ahead from their their communication department.
