GWM Malaysia has introduced the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV, adding a self-charging hybrid option to its luxury MPV range. The new model costs RM249,800 in Peninsular Malaysia, excluding Langkawi.
The launch follows deliveries of 2,000 GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV units nationwide. Both versions offer seven seats, but the HEV uses a self-charging hybrid system and does not require external charging.
2.0-litre turbo hybrid with all-wheel drive
The GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid engine with GWM’s Hi4 electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. The powertrain produces a combined output of 358 PS (263 kW) and 782 Nm of torque.
GWM claims fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100 km under the NEDC testing cycle. Its combined driving range reaches up to 845 km.
The hybrid system manages power delivery between the engine and electric drive system according to driving conditions. Owners can benefit from hybrid efficiency while continuing to refuel at conventional petrol stations.
Seven-seat cabin with captain seats
The WEY G9 Hi4 HEV features a 2+2+3 seating layout. The first and second rows receive Nappa leather upholstery and ventilated seats, while the driver and second-row passengers get 10-point massage functions.
Second-row passengers also receive Zero Gravity captain seats with electric leg rests and six-way adjustment.
The third-row seats can tip up to provide additional luggage flexibility. Boot capacity ranges from 233 litres to 1,725 litres, depending on the seating configuration.
Cabin noise reduction features include HALOSonic active noise cancellation, an acoustic windscreen and acoustic glass for the first- and second-row doors. Three-zone automatic climate control, a CN95 cabin filter and air-quality monitoring with plasma purification are also included.
Infotainment and driver assistance
The cabin features a 14.6-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a head-up display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50-watt wireless charger and six-zone voice recognition are included.
A 21-speaker premium audio system handles entertainment, while dual power sliding doors and a sensor-operated power tailgate improve everyday convenience. Owners can also manage selected vehicle functions through the GWM mobile application.
Other equipment includes a digital rear-view mirror, a 360-degree camera with transparent chassis view and automated parking.
Safety equipment includes six SRS airbags and driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, lane-centre keeping, lane-change assistance, blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert with braking.
Price, promotions and warranty
The GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV is available in Aurora White, Wisdom Grey and Nebula Black. Its interior comes in black with a grey roof.
The introductory package includes financing rates from 0.08% through selected banks, RM5,000 in trade-in support and five years of free maintenance covering labour and parts. The maintenance package is valued at RM11,200.
GWM also provides a six-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty. The high-voltage battery, electric drive motor and electric motor control unit receive an eight-year or 180,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.
