Honda HR-V Gains Some Minor Enhancements Locally

A new infotainment system and a new white exterior hue is about the extent of the changes made to the 2021 HR-V.

Honda Malaysia has recently officially made some mild enhancements to its ever-popular HR-V model for the 2021 model year, with particular emphasis here on the word mild. That is because the extent of the enhancements made are limited to a new Platinum White Pearl exterior hue, and a new 7-inch Display Audio central infotainment display with integrated Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Now to be completely fair to the updated Honda, two extra USB ports now also exist on the centre console of this Japanese compact crossover. Additionally, the hybrid HR-V does get some nice aesthetics enhancements this time round, adding LED headlights, fog lights and tail lights, not to mention chrome door handles and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Aside from that, this enhanced version in essence just a slight revision on the facelifted HR-V that was launched last year. It is also therefore in effect means that it is roughly the same car that is commonly seen on Malaysian roads since its initial debut way back in 2015.

Having said that, this is no bad thing as the Honda HR-V has been a strong seller locally since first arriving here six years ago. In fact, this ever-popular Honda currently holds the title as the best-selling non-national compact SUV in Malaysia, with 73% of the local market share in the segment.

To add to that, the HR-V also the third best selling model within the Japanese automaker’s current model lineup. Comprising of 17% of the total Honda sales in Malaysia in 2020, the plucky compact crossover just comes in behind City and Civic sedans.

Available in four trim levels, namely the E, V, RS and Sport Hybrid i-DCD, prices (inclusive of sales tax exemption) of the enhanced 2021 Honda HR-V remain the same for the three 1.8 litre petrol-powered models. Costing RM 104,000.21 for E variant, RM 113,421.92 for V variant and RM 118,581.81 for RS variant.

The price for the enhanced Sport Hybrid i-DCD variant however has yet to be officially revealed by Honda, though it shouldn’t be much more than the RM 120,800 (inclusive of sales tax exemption) that the outgoing pre-enhanced model currently retails at.

Bookings for these enhanced HR-V models are now open, and can be made through any authorised Honda dealerships nationwide. Alternately, there is also now the option of placing a booking online through the Honda Malaysia’s Pre-Booking Online Platform at prebook.honda.com.my.
