Honda Malaysia Retains Its Non-National Sales Title In 2020

This sales accolade has been maintained by Honda Malaysia for the sixth consecutive year.

With a total of 60,469 cars sold within the last 12 months, Honda Malaysia has recently announced that it has managed to retain its ‘undisputed leadership position as No.1 in the Non-National Segment’. For the sixth consecutive year no less.

Making up a large plurality of the local Honda sales in 2020 would be the City, as Malaysia’s most popular Non-National B-segment model contributed to 34% of the 60,469 Hondas sold over the last 12 months in Malaysia. More impressively too, while the outgoing fourth generation model sold an estimated 9,800 units last year, the fifth generation car that was launched in October had roughly the same amount of sales in just the last two months of the year alone.

Honda Malaysia has reported that it had delivered close to 10,800 pf the new City sedans over the last two months of 2020. In fact, this latest model in the Japanese automaker’s local lineup has recorded the highest monthly sales in its history, with over 5,500 units sold in December last year.

Talking more about the sales statistics regarding the City, the top-spec V variant continues to be the most popular trim level for this locally-assembled Japanese sedan, with over 52% of the cars sold being of this spec. Furthermore, the most popular exterior colour for this new City looks to be the Platinum White Pearl, with 26% of buyers choosing this white colour for their new compact sedan.

Looking further at the sales breakdown provided by Honda, the second and third best selling models within the local lineup were the Civic and HR-V respectively. Thereby contributing 20% and 17% apiece to the total sales of the Japanese automaker in Malaysia over the last 12 months.

As for the year ahead, in addition to the debut of the City RS, it is expected for Honda to announce the arrival of the City Hatchback. Already having been unveiled in Thailand late last year, this new hatchback is set to replace the popular, but ageing Jazz within the automaker’s local lineup.

There may perhaps be updates coming to the Honda’s fully-imported top-tier models, namely the Odyssey and Civic Type R. Both models have already received updates on the global market, so it is a high likelihood that these updates would soon make its way to the official imported versions here too.

What is certain however for Honda in 2021 would be its continue fulfilment of the more than 15,200 orders that has been placed for the new City to date. So look forward to seeing a whole lot more of these new shape Japanese sedans on Malaysian roads in the coming months.
