FUEL Costs Drive Demand for Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV

Over 6,500 bookings for Proton e.MAS 7 in two months

Rising fuel prices and reduced subsidies are accelerating interest in new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Malaysia. PRO-NET, Proton’s NEV arm, reports strong demand for the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, which has recorded over 6,500 bookings since its launch in February 2026.

The model is primarily attracting family-oriented buyers, with 75% of customers being men aged 36 and above. Buyers cite fuel savings, hybrid flexibility, and everyday usability as key factors, reflecting a broader shift toward electrified vehicles for both daily commuting and long-distance travel.

“The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV meets the growing need for cost-efficient mobility,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET. “Its electric-first efficiency, combined with petrol-assisted range, offers a practical and accessible solution for Malaysian households.”

Designed as a dual-powered SUV, the e.MAS 7 PHEV delivers fuel consumption of 4.3L/100km even with a depleted battery. It supports daily urban driving with electric efficiency while maintaining flexibility for longer journeys.

The model features a modern exterior design and practical enhancements such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. Inside, it offers a head-up display (HUD), wireless charging, a 360° camera with 3D view, and powered ventilated seat, features that appeal strongly to professional and family users.

Priced from RM105,800, the e.MAS 7 PHEV lowers the barrier to plug-in hybrid ownership compared to traditional hybrids. Most buyers (63%) are upgrading from petrol vehicles, indicating increasing confidence in electrified mobility.

The e.MAS 7 PHEV combines EV efficiency with petrol-assisted flexibility, positioning it as a practical, cost-effective option for Malaysian families transitioning away from internal combustion engine vehicles.
