Interestingly, it is the base-spec Axia 1.0G that receives the biggest price cut.
Perodua says the reductions are the result of continuous process improvements, while others may point to increasing pressure from new Proton Saga. But whatever the reason, the Axia lineup has just become considerably more affordable, with selected variants now costing up to RM 4,700 less than before!
Interestingly though, and rather contrary to how these things usually go, it is the entry-level 1.0G that receives the biggest reduction. Previously priced at RM 38,600, this most basic version of the new-shape Axia now starts from just RM 33,900 following the full RM 4,700 price cut. And it just so happens to now place it comfortably below the RM 38,990 starting price of the base Proton Saga Standard, though those feeling a little more charitable may simply call this exercise an endeavour in price parity with the supposedly soon-to-be-discontinued Axia E Rahmah variant.
Moving further up the range meanwhile, the reductions become markedly less enticing. The 1.0X and 1.0SE, for instance, are now RM 1,500 and RM 1,000 cheaper respectively, bringing their prices down to RM 38,500 and RM 43,000. As for the range-topping 1.0 AV, it receives a rather token RM 500 reduction, with its new asking price now standing at RM 49,000.
Justifying the revised pricing, Perodua president and CEO Datuk Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said: “This price revision forms part of our ongoing efforts to ease the cost pressures currently faced by Malaysians. The revised pricing is the outcome of sustained, continuous improvement initiatives undertaken in close collaboration with our local suppliers and partners within the automotive ecosystem.”
Zainal added that these efficiency improvements have not only enabled the lower Axia prices, but have also translated into reduced servicing costs and revised pricing for the all-electric QV-E. The EV now starts from RM 93,999 when purchased outright, or RM 69,999 under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme, with the monthly battery subscription remaining at RM215 (inclusive of tax) over a nine-year period.
“We thank them (vendors and dealers) for extending their full cooperation in enhancing cost efficiency for the collective benefit of the industry and, by extension, all Malaysians,” he added.
