Nissan Debuts New Kuro Edition For Its Almera Turbo In Malaysia
This new blacked-out special edition of the Nissan Almera Turbo starts from RM 83,888.
While certainly all but forgotten by anyone who is in the market for a compact sedan these days, Nissan has nevertheless at least attempted to spruce up its Almera Turbo for 2024. And to that end, it has since launched the Kuro Edition, which as its name (that means black in Japanese) implies brings with it various dark-themed styling enhancements to this model.
Now with this being a product of Tan Chong, the supposedly simple specifics of this new special edition is somehow to be rather confusing. Such is because on top of the aforementioned Kuro Edition, there is also to be the option to further add on a similarly-named Kuro Package and Kuro GT Package on top of it.
So just touching on the base Kuro Edition first, this variation from the normal Almera brings with it a new gloss black front grille cladding and black alloy rims (15-inch on the VL and 16-inch on the VLP/VLT). A new Glacier Grey exterior hue has also been added to the colour palette for this compact sedan as part of this package, which incidentally is apparently valued at RM 8,000.
The Kuro Package meanwhile adds a TOMEI Japan-developed aerokit, which includes front and rear bumper spoilers, side skirts and a boot lid spoiler. (All of which is of course in gloss black, as befitting of its namesake.) ICE Cool window tint, sport pedals, kick plates, door handle protectors and door visors have also been thrown in as part of this optional add-on.
As for the Kuro GT Package on the other hand, those who select this option nets a more prominent Tomei GT wing in black and 16-inch two-tone Impul Racing alloys. Do note though that this particular add-on is limited to only 300 vehicle sets, and is exclusively available as an add-on to the VLP and VLT Kuro Package.
“The Nissan Almera Turbo embodies what we at Edaran Tan Chong Motor aspire to offer – high-tech, high-value products that are not only affordable to own, but also fun to drive and economical to run. With the enhancements of the KURO (Black) Edition, the Almera Turbo is now more visually striking than ever and we are confident that it will receive the attention it deserves as the most complete sedan in the B-segment,” said Christopher Tan, the Director of Sales and Marketing at Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn. Bhd.
Prices for the Almera Kuro Edition currently starts at RM 83,888, with a launching promotion at RM 1,000 for the add-on Kuro Package or RM 1,500 for the Kuro GT Package. Available for viewing at any Nissan dealership nationwide, Edaran Tan Chong Motor is also currently touting for this compact sedan could be had for a low monthly instalment starting from RM 658.
As for those who perhaps totally forgot about the existence of this Nissan sedan now, here is just a quick refresher of its specs…
Propulsion in the Almera Turbo comes courtesy of a boosted triple under the hood that pumps out a reasonable 100 PS and a healthy 152 Nm of torque, which is mated to a XTRONIC Continuously Variable Transmission with D-Step Logic and Sport Mode. One of the key claims to fame with this powertrain is its impressive fuel economy rating of 18.4 km per litre, which is aided by the Mirror Bore Coating technology on its engine internals that is apparently derived from the iconic R35 Nissan GT-R.
Among the other key claims to fame with this Almera Turbo is its its high levels of standard safety equipment. Powered by technological innovations under the Nissan Intelligent Mobility and Nissan Safety Shield 360 initiatives, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW) and Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking (IFEB) are standard across all three variants, with the top VLT grade adding Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Intelligent Around View Monitor (IAVM) 360° camera with Moving Object Detection (IMOD).
Other key tech highlights with the Almera is its 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration) and 7-inch semi-digital meter cluster. Though buyers of this sedan will probably be more interested to know that this sedan still features Nissan’s famously comfortable zero-gravity seats, as well as a decently large boot of 482 litres.
