Hyundai Stargazer To Launch Locally Costing From RM 99,000

This Hyundai answer to the Xpander and Veloz is set to arrive in Malaysia by the end of 2026.

There is certainly no shortage of contrast at Hyundai’s stand at KLIMS 2026 this year, as alongside the spicy hot (and half-million-ringgit) IONIQ 5 and 6 N now sits the practical and affordable Stargazer MPV. Tipped to become a volume seller for the South Korean marque moving forward, this rival to the Mitsubishi Xpander and Toyota Veloz is slated to arrive in Malaysia in Q4 2026, with prices starting from RM 99,000.

If wanting to be pedantic however, it is worth highlighting that this headline five-figure price only applies to the entry-level Style variant. Hyundai will also offer two higher-spec versions, with the Prime priced at RM 109,000 and the range-topping X at RM 121,000.

The Stargazer will arrive as a fully imported model from Indonesia, with this facelifted version having made its debut there last year. And it should go without saying that the most noticeable update is its rather distinctive front-end design, featuring a full-width slatted grille topped by an illuminated light bar that links the reflector LED headlamps.

Variant differentiation is easiest from the side, as only the flagship X gains more rugged styling elements, including chunkier bumpers, silver skid plate accents, wheel arch cladding and black exterior badging for a more SUV-inspired appearance. The base Style rides on 16-inch alloy wheels, while the Prime and X gain 17-inch items, with the latter further receiving a unique black-finished design.

In terms of dimensions, the Stargazer measures 4,575 mm long, 1,780 mm wide and 1,695 mm tall, with a 2,780 mm wheelbase. This makes it 20 mm shorter than the Xpander, though a full 100 mm longer than the Veloz. Seating capacity differs by variant, with the Style and Prime offered as seven-seaters, while the X features a six-seat layout with captain chairs in the second row.

The IONIQ 6-esque dashboard up front on the Stargazer features a digital instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch multi-information display and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen on the base variant, while the Prime and X upgrade to twin 10.25-inch displays. The centre console houses either manual or automatic air-conditioning controls depending on variant, along with a conventional T-shaped gear selector down below. The X gains a more contemporary rotary shift-by-wire controller instead.

Seat upholstery is fabric on the Style, part faux leather on the Prime and full faux leather on the X. Prime and X variants also receive fold-out tables behind the front passenger seat, while — blessedly for Malaysia — all variants nevertheless feature roof-mounted rear air vents with dedicated blower controls.

Powering every Stargazer is Hyundai’s Smartstream G 1.5-litre naturally aspirated MPI four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 115 PS at 6,300 rpm and 143 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. Drive is sent to the front wheels through Hyundai’s chain-driven Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), essentially a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Much like its tri-diamond rival, the Stargazer comes with just two airbags in base specification. The Prime and X, however, gain six airbags as well as Hyundai SmartSense advanced driver assistance systems. These include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane centring assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, leading vehicle departure alert, driver attention warning, safe exit warning and automatic high beam.

Available exterior colours include Titan Gray Metallic, Creamy White Pearl and Midnight Black Pearl, while the Stargazer X exclusively gains the option of Gravity Gold Matte.

When the Stargazer officially launches later this year, the first 800 customers will receive a welcome package worth RM 4,600. This includes an eight-year/160,000 km warranty, four years of free scheduled maintenance and a booking fee set at just RM 88. Existing Hyundai owners will also enjoy an additional RM 1,000 loyalty rebate.
