Kia K4 Previewed At KLIMS 2026, But NOT For Sale In Malaysia?

Kia has already stated that the recently previewed K4 is not going to be launched locally anytime soon.
While Kia may have brought a flurry of EVs to KLIMS 2026, there was also one notable petrol-powered car taking centre stage: the new K4. And though it certainly looks ready for local showrooms, the company has curiously stated that this mid-sized sedan is not slated for a Malaysian launch anytime soon.

Now before getting into this rather curious non-launch, it is worth noting exactly what the K4 is. Essentially serving as the successor to both the Forte and Cerato, the K4 first made its international debut in March 2024 as a sedan, before being joined more recently by hatchback and Sportswagon estate variants.

While it may look more like a City rival in pictures, the K4 is actually a proper C-segment contender. Its overall dimensions are, incidentally, larger than those of a Civic, measuring 4,710 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,420 mm tall, with a wheelbase spanning 2,720 mm.
Design-wise meanwhile, the fastback-styled K4 showcases Kia’s latest family face, featuring the brand’s distinctive Tiger Face grille flanked by Star Map signature lighting and compact cube-style LED projector headlamps. A staple-shaped full-width light signature stretches across its swooping rump in turn, while the GT-Line variant displayed at KLIMS 2026 further adds 18-inch alloy wheels and various gloss black exterior accents.
There was unfortunately no public preview of the K4’s cabin at KLIMS, but international-spec models feature a twin-tier dashboard layout housing twin 12.3-inch displays for both the instrument cluster and infotainment system, alongside a smaller 5-inch screen dedicated to climate controls. Other available equipment includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats and a 60:40 split-folding rear bench.

Powering this K4 is Kia’s Smartstream G 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, producing 193 PS and 265 Nm of torque. The T-GDI powerplant is then to be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels, while suspension duties are handled by MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear setup.

Getting back to the fact that Kia is not technically committed to bringing the K4 here, it is interesting to note that — bar the Proton S70 and fully-electric BYD Seal 6 — the sedan market remains one area that Chinese brands have yet to fully dominate. And while SUVs may be all the rage these days, healthy local sales figures suggest there is still room for a fresh contender in the C-segment sedan space.
In any case though, any newcomer would still have to take on the granddaddy of the segment: the Honda Civic. And for the K4 to stand a realistic chance, it would need to be priced attractively enough to feel like a genuine value proposition against what has become a rather expensive Civic.
So perhaps somewhere between RM130,000 and RM150,000 sounds about right for this K4?
