Local Assembly Of GWM’s Haval H6 HEV Begins In Melaka

This locally-assembled hybrid Haval SUV is set to arrive over here with a price tag of under RM 145,000.

Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has recently announced that the first Complete Knock-Down (CKD) unit of its Haval H6 HEV has rolled off the assembly line at EP Manufacturing Berhad’s new CKD production plant in Melaka. This hybrid SUV is to be the Chinese marque’s first locally-assembled endeavour over here, and is set to go on sale later this month with an estimated price tag of below RM 145,000.

The Haval H6 HEV will be the fourth model (after Ora Good Cat, Ora 07 and Tank 300) launched by GWM Malaysia since its return to the local market. The local assembly of this electrified SUV in Melaka will be the Chinese automaker’s second CKD effort for this model in ASEAN, as this hybrid alternative to a Proton X70 already was rolling off its Thai production site all the way back in 2021.

In the initial phase of the production at GWM’s new CKD production plant in partnership with EP Manufacturing Berhad in Melaka, the automaker is targeting an annual production capacity of 10,000 units. The second phase of preparation meanwhile aims to expand the target to a highly ambitious 300,000 units, which if not a typo in the press release indicates that regional export plans from this Malaysian site might be on the horizon.

“At GWM Malaysia, our focus is not just on delivering high-quality vehicles but also on ensuring a smooth ownership experience,” said Cui Anqi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia. “With the comprehensive inspection process, we ensure every Haval H6 HEV unit meets our exacting standards for quality and reliability,” he added.

It was touted by GWM Malaysia that once a Haval H6 HEV rolls off the production line, it will undergo a comprehensive procedure that incorporates over 12 rigorous quality checks to guarantee that each vehicle meets the highest standards. A range of on-track safety tests will also apparently be performed to ‘ensure optimal performance’ and ‘an unparalleled ownership experience for (its) valued customers’.

Titled the ‘Best-selling SUV in China’ for more than 100 consecutive months, its maker has proudly claimed that over 4 million units Haval H6 HEV have since been produced. Powering this hybrid SUV over here is to be a 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder and electric motor pairing, with the latter integrated into a two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). Combined system output is currently quoted at 243 PS and 530 Nm of torque, with GWM also claiming that this hybrid SUV to manage a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.2 litres per 100 km.

A Star Matrix frameless grille flanked by Matrix LED headlights gives this Haval H6 HEV a brash yet chic frontal appearance, while a full-width light bar round its rump is to be further complemented a rather funky dual-segmented third brake light cluster on its roof spoiler. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen in turn headlines the features within, with this sole variant landing locally to apparently be packing other neat extras such as a panoramic glass sunroof and heads-up display.
