Toyota Malaysia Now Officially Offers The Harrier With A Hybrid

This XU80-series Toyota Harrier Hybrid officially lands locally with a price tag of RM 289,000.
Nearly five years on from its local debut, UMW Toyota Motor has now finally seen fit to finally introduce a hybrid powertrain option for the fourth-generation XU80-series Harrier. This new electrified 2.5-litre variant has replaced the previously ICE-only 2.0-litre offerings, and arrives with an official price tag of RM 289,000.

Now straight to the main talking point, the Harrier Hybrid pairs a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid system. The ICE portion itself produces 178 PS and 221 Nm, while the electric motor contributes an additional 88 kW, for a total of 218 PS bring sent to only the front wheels.
Efficiency is naturally the headline benefit here, with Toyota claiming fuel consumption as low as 4.7 litres per 100 km. Drivers can toggle between Eco, Normal, Sport and EV modes, the latter enabling short bursts of fully electric, zero-emissions driving in suitable conditions.

Beyond the new electrified powertrain however, the Harrier Hybrid essentially remains largely unchanged from the outgoing petrol variant. Its sleek coupe-SUV silhouette is exactly what it was when it launched while Covid was still a big thing, with this electrified variant even riding on the same 18-inch wheels previously fitted to the 2.0 Luxury specification.
Bar a few subtle Hybrid badges, it would be hard pressed to tell an electric motor lies underneath its swoopy silhouette. Exterior equipment with the Harrier Hybrid continues to include a full suit of LED lighting, alongside auto-folding mirrors with puddle lamps, a kick-sensor powered tailgate, and a fixed panoramic glass roof.

Moving along inside, this new Harrier Hybrid sports an 8.0-inch central infotainment display supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, complemented by a 12.3-inch digital multi-information display, a head-up display and digital rear-view mirror. Comfort highlights include ventilated and heated front seats, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, as well as dual-zone climate control with nanoe X air purification and rear air vents.
Safety in the Harrier Hybrid comes courtesy of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, bringing the expected driver assistance systems such as Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Lane Tracing Assist, Adaptive High-beam System, Road Sign Assist, and Parking Support Brake. A Panoramic View Monitor (360º camera) further improves visibility during low-speed manoeuvres, while a Digital Video Recorder and RFID tag is also included in the package as well.
Locally, the Harrier Hybrid is to be offered in Platinum White Pearl, Grey Metallic, and Precious Black, paired with a black interior theme. Ownership coverage includes a five-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, an eight-year hybrid battery warranty, and a ten-year guaranteed parts availability commitment, backed by Toyota’s nationwide service and body-repair network.
