This Aftermarket Bumper Turns A Bezza Into A GR Yaris Lookalike

There are incidentally similar GR Yaris face kits out there too for both the Perodua Myvi and Axia.

With its bonafide rallying pedigree and boost-happy turbo triple under its hood, the Toyota GR Yaris has long since earned its place as one of those cars that enthusiasts would happily trip over themselves to have in their garage. Though even with the earliest examples now on the market for a good third off from its initial RM 300k+ list price, there are unfortunately still not many around who are willing (or able) to drop that huge chunk of change on this tiny a pocket rocket.

In the spirit of faking it till one makes it however, there is now actually a way to at least get (somewhat) the GR Yaris look on something that most Malaysians already own. Such is as discovered on Shopee recently is an aftermarket front bumper kit that, for only a few hundred ringgit, could transform a Perodua Bezza into something that at least (vaguely) looks like the aforementioned road-going rally Toyota.

Now credit where credit is due here first, this aftermarket bumper with its large rectangular central opening does actually give the compact Perodua sedan that iconic square-jawed frontal look of the GR Yaris. Add to that a scoop on its hood and especially with the whole car painted white too, there will likely be at least a few people who would do a double take to see what exactly zoomed by.

Though of course, adding the GR Yaris face onto a Bezza in no way sees for this compact sedan to actually hold a candle to the performance potential of the true-blue rally homologation hero. Going by the way some people drive these Peroduas out on the road however, there is possibly the plausible argument that can be made for both cars to be quite closely matched when it comes to real world performance.

And while admittedly one is an awkwardly elongated small sedan with the other being a three-door sloped-roof hatchback, there are actually more than a few similarities between the two cars too. Both the Bezza and GR Yaris are after all tiny subcompact cars with Japanese heritage, and both are indeed driven by three cylinders under their hoods.

In fact, this aftermarket bumper kit for the Bezza is legitimately to be in the spirit of the GR Yaris. That is as even Toyota themselves currently sell a version of this pocket rocket it calls the RS in its home market of Japan, which essentially features ordinary Yaris running gear (a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated front-drive three pot + CVT) underneath the full fat GR bodywork.

Going into more detail regarding the aftermarket bumper here, the Shopee listing currently states for the unpainted fibreglass units to start from RM 330, while painted ones cost from RM 680. The pair of round fog lights are however not to be included in the stated prices, as is the hood scoop.

Oh, and for those who really want to more faithfully make their Peroduas pretend to be a GR Yaris, there are incidentally also similar bumper kits available for the new-gen Axia and Myvi as well. The question that arises now is how much would it cost to actually swap in one of those delectable turbo triples from the rally-homologated Toyota, just for funsies y’know?
