Volkswagen group has just released a statement that the Audi e-tron will be produced for the Chinese market by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture at the Changchun plant. Between 45,000 and 50,000 units of this electric driven SUV will be produced each year only for Chinese customers.
Another Audi electric model to be produced in China is the e-tron Sportback is also expected to hit the production lines at the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture plant in Foshan in the south-eastern province of Guangdong. The production version of the e-tron Sportback will be launching at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year.
The German automaker’s all electric offering for the Chinese market, the Q2 L e-tron, will go on sale before the end of this year. This vehicle will also be produced by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.
The Q2 L e-tron is powered by a single electric motor producing a power of 134 hp and torque of 290 Nm. The 38 kWh battery enables a range of 265 km for the compact SUV.
Currently, the all-electric SUV is produced at Audi’s plant in Brussels, Belgium. This all electric Audi e-tron is equipped with one of the largest battery packs on the market with a possible range of 204 miles (328 km) (EPA). The WLTP rating is 417 km (259.1 miles).
This German SUV is classified on the bottom of the efficiency rank, with 455 Wh/mile of combined energy consumption (EPA), including charging losses.
We know that one of the biggest factors contributing to range that is lower than anticipated is available battery capacity of 83.6 kWh, which is 88% of the total value. 12% is an unavailable buffer to increase safety and long-term durability.
An Audi China China spoke-person said “In recent days, local media outlets revealed that the joint venture with FAW Group will put a new C-segment all-electric SUV model into mass production at its plant in Foshan, Guangdong province. The new model is in likelihood the Audi e-tron Sportback”
