Two versions of the OMODA 5 arrives priced at RM108k and RM118k

Before this grand launch in Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, we had already estimated a possible selling price of around RM115k or so for the Omoda 5. This was shattered last night when the price announcement from the Mr. Shawn Xu, Chery International Vice President and President of Chery Malaysia was from just RM108,800 which puts it side by side with the best selling Proton X50 Crossover.

Measuring in at 4,400 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, 1,585 mm in height and 2,630 mm in wheelbase, this Omoda 5 Crossover also competes with the Toyota Corolla Cross and Honda CR-V size-wise.

Meanwhile, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Malaysia, was invited as the guest of honour for the official launch alongside other guests.

Tengku Zafrul said, “The ASEAN EV market is forecasted to grow at almost 33% per annum to US$2.7 billion by 2027. Mass electrification from the automotive sector fits in well with our national ESG and net zero agenda from the manufacturing industry’s perspective.

To that end, the introduction of Chery’s new electric vehicles (EVs) models will support Malaysia’s efforts to decarbonise our economy, and will contribute to the growth of the EV market in Malaysia. We are also proud that Chery has chosen Malaysia as the Regional Hub for Right-Hand Drive (RHD) Vehicles for their Southeast Asian and Oceania markets.

MITI and its agencies further welcome Chery’s commitment to invest an initial capital of RM170 million for their expansion here, which will provide 4,000 high paying, high-skilled jobs for Malaysians in the next 5 years.”

OMODA 5, is Chery’s first global car, developed based on market research from thousands of surveys conducted in numerous countries worldwide. It embodies an important representation of helping the new generation embrace a trendy lifestyle, with its cool design, leading-edge intelligent technology, and comprehensive 5-star safety features.

Chery’s deepening presence in Malaysia marks a new stage of its internationalization process, further accelerating its global expansion.

As the first Chinese automobile company to export complete vehicles, CKD kits, engines, and manufacturing technologies and equipment abroad, Chery has been steadfast in implementing its international market strategy for over 20 years.

Currently, Chery has established five major global R&D centres, with a research and development team of over 7,000 people, including technical experts who have previously served well-known automotive companies.

Additionally, Chery has built 10 major factories and 1,500 overseas service outlets worldwide. Its global sales have exceeded 11.3 million vehicles, with over 2.4 million overseas customers. Particularly in markets like Chile and Brazil, Chery’s various models have maintained leading positions in their respective segments, while in the Middle East and Mexico, it has become one of the fastest growing.

Interestingly, Chery is making social media headlines this morning with its comprehensive warranty policy for Malaysian users, which is a 7- year/150,000-kilometer vehicle warranty and a 10-year/million-kilometer engine warranty for the first 3,000 customers.

Take note that this warranty stays with the vehicles and can be transferred to the next owner in the used car market. No other car manufacturer has  ever offered a warranty like this in Malaysia.

In the future, Chery will continue to bring more flagship products and a diverse range of powertrain options to Malaysian users.
