Omoda & Jaecoo Sold Nearly 18,000 Cars In Malaysia In 2025

This Chery Group offshoot now has over 25,000 cars on the road since its local debut just last year.

Given how frequently Omoda and Jaecoo models now pop up on Malaysian roads, it should come as little surprise that the brand is doing rather well locally. What may still be surprising however is just how well Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia performed in 2025, having shifted nearly 18,000 vehicles over here in a single year.

The Chery Group offshoot certainly made an impactful debut in 2024, registering over 7,040 vehicles within its first year of operations. But that early momentum certainly turbocharged in 2025, with total sales surging by more than 153% year-on-year to an impressive 17,849 units delivered to customers nationwide.

And just to put that into perspective, there are now close to 25,000 Omoda and Jaecoo vehicles on Malaysian roads just 18 months after the brand’s local launch. Based on JPJ registration data too, this Chery offshoot also emerged as Malaysia’s fifth best-selling automaker in 2025, effectively becoming the “best of the rest” behind the country’s immovable top four brands.

Driving much of this growth was the strong reception of the Jaecoo J7, which accounted for 11,522 units sold nationwide. In parallel, the J7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) also gained significant traction, welcoming over 3,000 customers who embraced the brand’s Super Hybrid technology.

“Our strong growth in 2025 is a clear signal that Omoda & Jaecoo has moved beyond being a newcomer to become a preferred choice for Malaysian drivers,” said Men Lin Bo, Executive Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia. He added, “As we head into 2026, our focus is on solidifying our presence as a local automotive mainstay. We are committed to growing alongside Malaysia, ensuring that our global innovation is paired with a service and dealer network that truly understands the needs of our local community.”

Building on this momentum, the brand is now gearing up for another key milestone in 2026 with the upcoming introduction of the Jaecoo J5. Designed to broaden the portfolio and cater to evolving customer lifestyles, this small SUV is expected to arrive in Malaysian showrooms very soon, with pricing anticipated to hover around the RM 120,000 mark.

Now in simple terms, the J5 is essentially a J7 that has been run through the photocopier at about 80% scale. Dimensionally, this compact crossover measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall, riding on a 2,620 mm wheelbase.

Stylistically, the J5 carries forward Jaecoo’s now-signature blocky front grille, paired with a slim rear light bar for a modern, cohesive look. Along the sides sit 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels and conventional door handles, while buyers looking for a little extra visual flair can opt for a two-tone paint finish.

Powering the front wheels is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 147 PS and 210 Nm of torque, paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Fuel consumption is rated at 7.5 litres per 100 km on the WLTC cycle. More impressively, the J5 features a rear multi-link suspension setup, a notable step up from the torsion beam arrangement commonly found in most of its direct B-segment rivals.

Finally moving along inside, technology takes centre stage in the J5 with a large 13.2-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system, complemented by an 8.0-inch fully digital instrument cluster. An eight-speaker audio system, wireless charging pad and what Jaecoo claims to be the largest panoramic moonroof in its class at 1.45 square metres further round out the equipment list.

“The upcoming J5 represents our commitment to diversifying our lineup, offering a vehicle that is not only technologically advanced but also thoughtfully designed to complement the vibrant, tech-driven lifestyles of our customers,” said Chris Tan, Senior Director and Head of Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia. He added, “By combining an advanced infotainment system, best-in-class safety features, generous cabin space and lifestyle-oriented innovations such as a pet-friendly cabin and karaoke mode, the J5 sets a new benchmark for what a premium B-segment SUV can deliver.”
