Honda Sends Off Its Super Cub 50 With A Retro-Tastic Final Edition
This Final Edition Super Cub 50 will also incidentally be joined by a totally kawaii Hello Kitty Edition.
Due to ever-tightening emissions regulations and falling sales, Honda has since decided that the time is now for its small-capacity Super Cub 50 to be sent off into the subset. Though this is naturally not before a commemorative ‘Final Edition’ of this world’s best-selling bike has been released, which is of course appropriately dripping in retro nostalgia.
Unveiled recently in Japan, these Final Edition kapcais come resplendent in a White and Bonnie Blue hue that Honda says is “reminiscent of the Super Cub of yesteryear. This is then to be complemented by a black and white two-tone seat, as well as a plethora of silver and chrome accents to complete that 1960s throwback aesthetic.
These Final Editions further feature a body-colour painted rear carrier, in addition to a retro-inspired analogue instrument cluster aft from its single round LED headlight. Also to be found on these send-off specials are various old school badging on its front and sides that pays homage from the original Super Cub C50, with this kapcai to be started using a special red commemorative key as well.
Powering the Final Edition Super Cub 50 will be the usual 49 cc fuel-injected air-cooled single-cylinder, which develops 3.6 hp and 3.8 Nm of torque. Only 2,000 units of these send-off specials will be made for the Japanese market, with pre-tax prices starting at ¥270,000 (RM 7,700).
Now aside from the Final Edition, Honda has incidentally debuted too a Hello Kitty Edition of its Super Cub 50 to mark the 50th anniversary of this iconic cartoon cat.
This particular special edition two-wheeler pairs a two-tone red and cream colour scheme with a red-piped brown seat featuring Hello Kitty on the upholstery. Also making an appearance here are side covers and badging that feature various Hello Kitty motifs, in addition to a kawaii-tastic instrument cluster and a special red key.
The Hello Kitty Edition will be available with either the aforementioned 49 cc engine, or the larger 109 cc 8 hp unit that is found in the continuing Super Cub 110 variant. Pre-tax pricing for this special edition starts at ¥300,000 (RM 8,600), and production is limited to only 300 units.
