BYD Seal 5 DM-i's doing well in Thailand then why not Malaysia?
Positioned as a major, affordable plug-in hybrid (PHEV) disruptor, the BYD Seal 5 DM-i is selling very well in Thailand, with prices starting from a competitive THB 699,900 (approx. RM 91,247) for the promotion period. This C-segment sedan offers up to 1,000 km of total range and high-tech features, making it a strong competitor to traditional ICE sedans.

The question is why is it not yet launched in Malaysia to rival japanese hybrids which do very well and are higher priced.
The BYD seal 5 DM-i does well in Thailand due to the extremely competitive pricing which competes with B-segment sedans like the Toyota Vios’s HEV and Honda City e:HEV, but offers the size and features of a larger C-segment car such as a Honda Civic. It is also locally produced which helps control costs and supply chain stability.

The DM-i system provides excellent efficiency, with a claimed fuel consumption of 3.8L/100 km and It comes well-equipped with a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, 8.8-inch digital cluster, and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) capabilities on the Premium variant.

In Thailand it is the only PHEV in its price range, filling a niche for buyers who want an EV experience without range anxiety.
