Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Nets 5-Stars From 4 Global Safety Authorities

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro has earned top marks from Euro NCAP, ANCAP, ASEAN NCAP and China NCAP.

While some Malaysians might still associate the Chery name with a few unfortunate incidents from its earlier days in the local market, it has to be said that the Chinese automaker has nevertheless been working hard to further strengthen its safety credentials. And the latest example of this effort comes in the form of the Tiggo 7 Pro, which has now secured full five-star safety ratings from four major crash testing organisations worldwide.

These include Euro NCAP, ANCAP, ASEAN NCAP and China NCAP, making the Tiggo 7 the only Chinese-brand SUV to achieve the top rating across all four programmes.

Now, the most recent milestone came at the end of 2025 when the Tiggo 7 recorded a five-star rating from ASEAN NCAP with a score of 94.68 points — the highest result in the organisation’s history since it was established in 2011. The result highlighted the SUV’s strong performance across key safety categories including adult and child occupant protection, as well as safety assist technologies that are increasingly prioritised in modern crash testing protocols.

Prior to that meanwhile, the Tiggo 7 had already demonstrated its ability to meet stringent global safety standards. In October 2025, the SUV received a five-star rating from Euro NCAP after delivering balanced results across Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection and Safety Assist categories.

Just two months later, ANCAP then confirmed that the Australia-spec Tiggo 7 CSH maintained the same strong performance, earning a five-star rating under its closely aligned testing protocols. The plug-in hybrid variant stood out by achieving perfect scores in both Adult Occupant Protection and Safety Assist categories, making it the only PHEV to secure a “double perfect score” under these assessments.

Chery says a key contributor to these stellar safety results lies in the Tiggo 7’s structural integrity. The SUV adopts a cage-type energy-absorbing body structure, with more than 60% of the body constructed from high-strength steel. Critical areas are further reinforced with ultra-high-strength 1500 MPa hot-formed steel, while eight airbags are fitted as standard across the range to enhance occupant protection.

To help prevent accidents in the first place meanwhile, the Tiggo 7 is also equipped with a Level 2+ intelligent driver assistance suite. This includes features such as enhanced blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, systems designed to help drivers better navigate Southeast Asia’s often chaotic traffic conditions where motorcycles and dense urban traffic are common.

Other safety technologies include automatic emergency braking capable of detecting vehicles and pedestrians, as well as a 540º transparent chassis view system that provides a comprehensive view around the vehicle to help eliminate blind spots when manoeuvring.

In Malaysia, the Tiggo 7 range is currently available in two variants. The petrol-powered Tiggo 7 Pro is priced from RM 123,800 and is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 197 hp and 290 Nm, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels.

The RM 129,800 plug-in hybrid variant combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor for a total system output of 279 PS and 365 Nm. Its 18.3 kWh battery enables up to 90 km of electric-only driving range, while a 60-litre fuel tank allows for a claimed total hybrid range of up to 1,200 km.
