Here Are Some Cars That Really Look A Lot Like Other Cars

You’re not the only one who will have mistaken a Proton e.MAS 7 for a Porsche Cayenne from the rear…

As someone who works with cars on a daily basis and had a passion for them pretty much since when he first developed object permanence, one of the few skills this writer can be proud/ashamed of cultivating in his life is his ability to correctly identify nearly every car on the road today.

Unfortunately however, this skill had recently went a bit haywire, as what he thought (with some confidence too) was a Lexus NX from the rear in the distance turned out instead to be the new Haval H6 HEV. So totally not because he still feels a bit sour from that particular blunder then, here is therefore a story on just a few other cars that currently seem to share more than a bit of their styling cues with other cars…

Haval H6 HEV & Lexus NX

Let’s start off though with the aforementioned Haval, because it can’t just be this writer who thinks it looks somewhat like a Lexus NX from the rear, right?

Sure the H6 might have a slightly boxier silhouette than the NX, but those slim trapezoidal tail light signature connected by a full-width light bar are to be pretty similar-looking across both SUVs, especially when viewed from afar. Both cars even share a similar rear number plate placement too, with the spelt-out ‘LEXUS’ and ‘HAVAL’ script on its rump certainly not helping to distinguish them apart at a glance either.

It has to be said however that as this particular generation of Lexus NX came out after the Haval, could it be perhaps Lexus thatwas cribbing a few notes from GWM instead? But if going by this logic here, should Peugeot then take credit for how the H6 looks up front?

Leapmotor C10/Proton e.MAS 7 & Porsche Cayenne

In sticking still on the topic of how certain cars now look like other cars from behind, it would be remissed not to highlight that the Leapmotor C10 and Proton e.MAS 7 pretty much share the same arse as Porsche’s Cayenne.

The full-width rounded light bar signature on all of their rumps are pretty much identical in design between them, with all 3 of these semi-boxy, semi-rounded SUVs further having their respective automaker’s name written down as in an evenly-spaced script right below said light bar.

In fact, Porsche had even conveniently moved the number plate frame down to the bumper during the most recent facelift of its Cayenne, just to make the resemblance even more so to the two other (vastly-cheaper) cars.

Proton X70 & Jaguar F-Pace

While the Proton e.MAS 7 may look like a Cayenne from the rear, it however is not the only Proton SUV that looks like another SUV from a premium marque. Such is as (to this writer at least), the face of the recently facelifted X70 also shares more than a passing resemblance to the Jaguar F-Pace.

Now admittedly, this resemblance is perhaps not as clear cut as with the e.MAS 7 and Cayenne, but in some angles at least (and perhaps if one squints really hard), the new bold grille shape and its sleeker set of LED headlights of this recently updated X70, combined with the more pronounced lower intakes on its redesigned front bumper, could be said to have the slightest hint of big cat SUV to it.

Xiaomi YU7 & Ferrari Purosangue

Getting back to something more clear cut again meanwhile, below is a side-by-side comparison between the upcoming Xiaomi YU7 and Ferrari Purosangue. And pretty much the only reason anyone could tell them apart is because the SUV that is made by the consumer electronics giant is the one that comes with headlights ripped straight off a McLaren 720S.

It is really not Xiaomi’s first time to pretty much photocopy a design from someone else too, as its SU7 sedan is pretty much a Porsche Taycan, especially when viewed in profile. Though credit where credit is due, both these Chinese EVs from the Chinese electronics giant do actually have the power (on paper at least) to more than keep up with the European cars on which its designs were based upon.

Ferrari Purosangue & Toyota Crown Sport

Now upon mention of the Ferrari Purosangue, it would be remissed not to highlight too that this first-ever prancing horse SUV does look a lot like Toyota’s Crown Sport. I mean, just look at it…

In fact, such is the similarity between the two that there now exists a bodykit to turn a Crown Sport into a Purosangue lookalike. And it will probably not be shocking to also note that given the similarities between the two cars, the kit pretty much just consists of a new front splitter and rear diffuser, as well as a set of Ferrari-esque two-tone diamond-cut alloys and some yellow shields for its front fender to complete the look.

Though it is not just the Crown Sport that this Ferrari looks a lot like as well, with many on the internet have pointed out that this jacked-up prancing horse shares more than a passing resemblance to a Mazda CX-30…

Honda CR-V & Volvo XC60

Finally just as an interesting curio here, have you ever noticed that the rear lights of the Honda CR-V has been mimicking what Volvo has been doing on its similarly-sized XC60 for a few generations already?

Looking from the side especially, the vertical light rear light cluster of CR-V from two generations ago certainly is very much alike what is found on the previously rounded-shape XC60.

And when Volvo went to its more stylish Thor hammer rear light signature for this current iteration of XC60, Honda has since also followed suit with a rather similar L-shaped rear light design on its CR-V. Coincidence? I think not.
