Proton e.MAS Expands Local EV Charging Network To Condos

Condo-dwelling Proton e.MAS owners will also get to enjoy a special charging rate of RM 0.63/kWh till 2027.

As everyone likely knows by now, home charging makes a world of difference when it comes to living with an EV on a daily basis. But while that is easy enough for those living in landed properties with the ability to plug in on their own driveway, it is not exactly as straightforward when your car spends its nights in a condominium car park.

Thankfully, it appears PRO-NET may have an answer to that conundrum. Such is as the distributor of Malaysia’s current best-selling EV has recently announced a major expansion of its condominium charging network, making it easier for high-rise residents to charge their EVs at home.

Looking at the finer details, the Proton e.MAS charging network now encompasses more than 1,500 charging points across over 500 participating condominiums and high-rise residential developments nationwide. Coverage continues to grow across key regions such as the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor, while additional locations have also been added in Sabah, Sarawak and other major cities throughout Malaysia.

Better yet, Proton e.MAS owners at participating condominiums and high-rise residences nationwide can continue to enjoy exclusive residential charging rates from just RM 0.63 per kWh via the Proton e.MAS App. And with this special rate lasting until 31 December 2026, there is at least one energy bill that should remain pleasantly predictable regardless of what happens at the petrol pump.

As part of its broader ecosystem strategy too, Proton e.MAS is touting its continual integration of charging, connectivity and ownership services into a unified experience. Through the Proton e.MAS App, owners residing in participating condominiums and apartments can conveniently locate, access and manage charging sessions directly from their smartphones.

Being a condominium dweller himself however, this writer could only hope that future updates introduce some form of notification system that gently reminds fellow residents when their EV has finished charging and is still occupying the bay. This is especially since, with EV adoption on the rise, it feels almost inevitable that “charging bay wars” may eventually become a thing in high-rise car parks, where multiple EVs are competing for a limited number of chargers.

Still, the expansion of residential charging infrastructure remains one of the most important pieces of the EV ownership puzzle. And while public charging networks continue to grow across the country, convenient overnight charging at home remains the biggest factor in making EV ownership truly practical for everyday Malaysians.

“As more Malaysians transition to sustainable mobility, it is important that electric vehicle charging solutions cater to different living environments, such as those in condominiums or high-rise residences. With charging rates starting from RM0.63/kWh and expanded access nationwide, we are making EV ownership more accessible, practical, and cost-efficient for everyday users,” said Mr. Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.
