MINI Malaysia today introduced the New MINI John Cooper Works Countryman 306HP and New MINI John Cooper Works Clubman 306HP, both equipped with a new powerful engine that boasts 306HP and 450Nm of torque.
The New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants now sport a comprehensively redesigned engine with new sport brakes, cooling, and sport exhaust systems to keep the 306 hp in check. The new models are also equipped with the ALL4 all-wheel drive as standard for all-weather capability and all-terrain agility.
Intelligent connectivity and a range of premium comfort features also equip the New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants. They include the new, in-vehicle 4G SIM card, and updated MINI Connected App with features including Teleservices, Intelligent Emergency Call, Remote Services, Apple Carplay, Concierge Services and MINI Online. The MINI Find Mate is also available for convenient tracking of car keys and other important devices.
Stealing glances with new accentuations.
The New MINI John Cooper Works Countryman 306HP now features a new bumper trim panel with open air intakes on both sides for efficient cooling of the new engine. The new model is also fitted with bigger tailpipes of 85 mm in diameter to accommodate to thepowerful JCW sound.
The New MINI John Cooper Works Clubman 306HP, on the other hand, arrives with a completely redesigned appearance from its predecessor. The model features a modified front bumper that visibly widens the frontal appearance, giving the New MINI John Cooper Works Clubman 306HP a sporty touch. The front spoiler comes with a larger splitter and a new insert in the lower grille, while the new bumper trim panel comes with enlarged cooling air intakes at both sides and two external coolant radiators to meet the requirements of the new engine’s power.
The all-new front grille design of the New MINI John Cooper Works Clubman 306HP features a larger, more distinctive grille surface that includes the familiar John Cooper Works honeycomb design. While the function of the crash beam is still in place, it is now placed under the honeycomb griller for a cleaner front grille appearance. Open mesh inserts are also present in the upper and lower part of the front grille due to an additional external cooler, with larger functional air inlets at the front, in the middle and at the side. Park Distance Control (PDC) sensors for added safety are located in the ornamental grille as well as the John Cooper Works typical red design blade, the JCW badge and – surrounding the grille, the new Piano Black exterior trim feature.
The New MINI John Cooper Works Clubman 306HP now comes with the new LED Headlights with Matrix Light Functionality, the first of its kind on a MINI vehicle. The innovative headlights provide the best possible illumination levels for better visibility and safety, while also reducing distraction for other drivers on the road by controlling the number of light segments switched on when near an oncoming vehicle. The new headlights also feature the Piano Black exterior that provides a glossy black surrounding, while new cornering lights are equipped as standard.
New full-LED taillights in the Union Jack design adorn the rear of the New MINI John Cooper Works Clubman 306HP, providing an impressive elegance. The brake light is also integrated in the Union Jack design. On the revised rear bumper is a newly developed JCW-specific exhaust system in double-board design. The now bigger tailpipes have a diameter of 95 mm to make room for the impressive JCW sound.
Additionally, both the New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants are fitted with the exclusive 19-inch JCW Circuit Spoke Two-Tone wheels, redesigned with edgier racing-inspired looks.
Maximum power, maximum driving pleasure.
Powering the two new models is a comprehensively redesigned four-cylinder engine derived from the two-litre drive in the MINI Cooper S Clubman and MINI Cooper S Countryman. The new engine features a modification in the crankshaft drive and the latest generation of the MINI TwinPower Turbo technology. With a capacity of 1,998cc, the engine in the New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants produces 306HP at 5000-6250 rpm, and a peak torque of 450Nm at 1750-4500 rpm. Both models have a top speed limited to 250 km/h. The New MINI John Cooper Works Clubman 306HP can do the century sprint in 4.9 seconds, while the New MINI John Cooper Works Countryman 306HP in 5.1 seconds.
The compression ratio of the new engine has been reduced from 10.2 to 9.5 to match the increased system charging pressure. Additionally, the turbocharger integrated in the exhaust manifold is fitted with a blow-off valve that contributes to its optimised response characteristics. The air intake duct has also been redeveloped and dethrottled as far as possible. Spontaneous power delivery is supported by the latest generation of direct petrol injection, while the new multi-hole fuel injectors arranged between the valves enable an increased flow rate, transporting the fuel to the combustion chambers under an injection pressure of up to 350ba.
The fine vaporisation enables precise fuel metering, which makes for especially clean combustion in addition to enabling optimum efficiency. The MINI TwinPower Turbo technology is also formed with VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing.
The engine is paired with the Eight-Speed Steptronic Sports Automatic Transmission which allows the new models to be more sporty, efficient and comfortable due to the smaller engine speed steps. The gears can also be shifted manually with the paddle shifters. When switched to “GREEN” on the MINI Driving Mode, coasting function can be activated as soon as the driver’s foot is off the accelerator at speeds between 50–160km/h. The integrated Launch Control guarantees optimal acceleration from a standing start compared to a standard manual gearbox.
Cooling-wise, an optimum running temperature for the engine is guaranteed at all times – even under extreme conditions on the racetrack – by two external radiators, a model-specific expansion tank with an increased volume, an independent cooling module mounting, an electric ventilator with increased output, and a third cooling level realised using a condenser. To optimise warmup, the cooling of the crank case can be temporarily deactivated by a new split cooling valve. In addition, the transmission has its own coolant circuit and external transmission oil cooler.
Speed burst manoeuvres are accompanied by the striking sound of the newly developed, model-specific sport exhaust system. When driving at a relaxed pace with optimised consumption and low engine speeds, the sound produced is more reserved and sonorous. The twin exhaust system leads into a new, particularly large-volume rear silencer. With its low level of exhaust back pressure, this benefits the engine’s spontaneous power delivery. Optimising emissions, the New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants are both fitted with a new petrol particulate filter, keeping them in line with the Euro 6d-TEMP standard.
Braking is enabled via a redesigned sport brake system that now contains four-piston, fixed-calliper disc brakes on the rear wheels. The large brake discs of 360×30 mm at the front and 330×20 mm at the rear combined with optimised coolant duct geometry also play their part in achieving the high level of stability. The red-coated brake callipers at the front bear the JCW logo. Suspension is offered via a JCW sport suspension that is 10 mm lower than standard, providing a remarkably dynamic driving experience and impressive stability. The New MINI John Cooper Works Countryman 306HP, however, is specially equipped with the Adaptive Suspension – an intelligent system where both compression and rebound can be adjusted to provide the best suspension for the current driving conditions.
The ALL4 All-Wheel drive is another highlight of the New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants, offering dynamic traction to maintain unbridled responsiveness on every terrain – with added grip, stability and control provided by the mechanical front differential lock. Whether on uneven surfaces, wet and slippery roads, during a cornering or on straight, level roads – the ALL4 All-Wheel drive promises peace-of-mind driving on every journey.
Redesigned interior for sporty flair.
The New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants feature sporty racing seat upholstered in Carbon Black Dinamica Leather, the JCW leather steering wheel, JCW instrument cluster, JCW centre display trim, JCW start screen and JCW door sills. They also feature elegant Stainless-Steel Pedals, on top of the MINI Yours Interior Cockpit Surface in Piano Black that illuminates at night in 12 different colours, based on the driver’s preferred ambience. Offering a scenic view of the sky is the Panoramic Sunroof that comes as standard for the new MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants.
Offering the best in infotainment, the New MINI John Cooper Works 306HP variants feature the high contrast Head-Up Display and the 8.8-inch Touch Screen Navigation System with a split-screen function, allowing two map views to be displayed at the same time. For a great music experience, the Harman Kardon Sound System provides a generous 360-watt output, designed precisely to suit the MINI’s interior.
