Place your name down for the stylish Zeekr X all-electric compact crossover with just a RM 2,000 fee.
While there is certainly more than enough options out there in the market already for a sub-RM 200,000 EV, Zeekr believes that there might just be space for one more. Such is as this premium all-electric sub-brand within the wider Geely umbrella will soon be making landfall in Malaysia, among its debut models will be its funky X e-crossover.
Set to be the premiere model for Zeekr in Malaysia alongside the 009 e-MPV, this X is currently slated to land locally with two variants: Premium and Flagship AWD. The indicative price for this e-crossover has been touted to start at RM 180,000 or below, with its local distributors (Sentinel Automotive Sdn Bhd) further announcing that the order books have recently been open for it too.
The Zeekr X Premium is said to land locally powered by a single rear-mounted 200 kW motor, which is supposedly good enough to see this e-crossover manage the century sprint in 5.6 seconds. The hotter Flagship AWD on the other hand nets another drive unit on its front axle, for a combined 315 kW and a 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds.
Feeding the motor(s) on both variants will be a 66 kWh NMC battery pack that should allow for a maximum WLTP-claimed range of 440 km for the single-motor Premium trim, with it in turn to be capable of 150kW DC charging for a 10% to 80% top-up in 30 minutes. And if all these specs might just sound a tad familiar to you here, it is probably worth highlighting at this point that the Zeekr X is built upon the same Geely Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) that currently not just underpins the pair of smart EVs that are available over here, but also the recently locally-launched Volvo EX30 as well.
Unique to the Zeekr though is undoubtably its funky futuristic vibe, which made all the more apparent from its interesting exterior aesthetic. The blobby yet sharp overall shape of this X features up front an unseeable moustachioed face from its concealed slim headlight bezels and air-curtain combination, topped off by what the automaker dubs ‘double-edged daytime LED lights’ on the outer upper corners of its bonnet.
Shown in the local promotional pictures of the X meanwhile are a set of elaborate star-patterned polished alloy wheels down its sloped-roof sides, with its shapely rump finished off by a full-width LED light bar. Both variants of this Zeekr e-crossover will be offered in five distinct exterior colours over here: Crystal White, Mist Grey, Grid Grey, Palace Beige and Pine Green with Charcoal Black and Stone Grey interior trim for all exterior colour choices.
Moving on within the Zeekr X now, its local distributors have yet to officially confirm what this e-crossover will feature in terms of cabin kit. A quick peek at what is offered in our neighbours immediately up north and across the causeway nevertheless shows for its funky yet minimalist cabin to most likely be accentuated by the standard fitment of an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen and a squircle multi-function steering wheel.
Stepping up to the more atas Flagship spec should also possibly see the addition of ventilated front seats, a B-pillar exterior charging status display and a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system upgrade (over the standard 7-speaker setup). Regardless of variants though, it has since been confirmed that all Zeekr X’s available locally will include 7 airbags, a 360º surround view camera and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR).
Moreover, a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) will also be available with the Zeekr X locally, bringing with it the usual active driver aids like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Lane Change (ALC); Lane Centering Control (LCC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) (including LDW, LDP, ELKA); Collision Mitigation Support Front (CMSF), Collision Mitigation Support Rear (CMSR), Door Open Warning (DOW), Front Cross Traffic Assist (FCTA), Rear Cross Traffic Assist (RCTA), Parking Emergency Braking (PEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Evasive Manoeuvre Assist (EMA), Automated Parking Assist (APA), and Driver Performance Monitor (DPM).
It still remains unknown as to when exactly the Zeekr X will actually be arriving over here, but it is highly likely that an official local debut should take place before the end of this year. The bigger question though surrounding this e-crossover is that with so many other compelling competitors at its price point, is its funky style enough to attract Malaysians to it?
