Sleek New smart #3 Launched Locally Costing From RM 175,000

This all-electric crossover-coupe from smart arrives in three flavours: Pro, Premium and BRABUS.

Following on from its local preview earlier this year at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, smart has since recently announced the official arrival of its #3 over here. This sleeker sibling to the #1 lands in the same three flavours of Pro, Premium and BRABUS, with the launch prices of each currently being RM 175,000, RM 215,000 and RM 255,000 respectively.

In its attempt to further sweeten the deal with its new #3 too, smart Malaysia has also since announced its All-Inclusive Premium Ownership and Launch Package. All confirmed orders made for this all-electric crossover-coupe from today till the end of July will therefore be entitled to the following perks:

  • Complimentary smartCharge Home Charger worth RM 3,200 with 2-Year Warranty (Excluding smartCharge Home Charging Installation priced from RM1,988)
  • Complimentary Accessories Package with 6-item worth RM 2,500
  • Vehicle to Load (V2L) Adaptor worth RM 800 with 2-Year Warranty
  • Complimentary 5-Year Internet Data of total 60 gb
  • 8-Year/200,000 km High-Voltage Battery Warranty
  • 8-Year/150,000km High-Voltage Component Warranty
  • 4-Year Unlimited Mileage Vehicle Warranty
  • 2-Year Unlimited Mileage Spare Parts Warranty
  • 24/7 Roadside Service Assistance

Delving more into details regarding this #3 meanwhile, it should be noted right at the outset here that this all-electric crossover-coupe is all but essentially just a #1 with a sleeker body. So to that end, it should come as no surprise that propelling the various variants of this EV is to be the same motor and battery configuration as its existing more-upright counterpart.

The #3 Pro and Premium have a rear-mounted electric motor producing 272 PS and 343 Nm of torque, which is said to be good for a 0-100 km/h time of 5.8 seconds and a top speed is 180 km/h. Thanks to a slipperier body (with a Cd factor of just 0.27 vs 0.29 for the #1) however, the 49 kWh LFP battery and 66 kWh NCM pack in those respective trims eke out slightly more range at 325 km (+ 10 km) and 455 km (+15 km).

Similarly, the same 66 kWh NCM pack in the #3 BRABUS also nets a range improvement of 15 km over the 400 km claimed in the hot #1. What is nevertheless more notable though with this performance model is that at least with Rocket Mode engaged, the 428 PS and 543 Nm of torque churned out from its dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain should see this all-electric crossover coupe go from 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds (down from the 3.9 s of its upright counterpart).

As for charging, the #3 Premium and Pro are one of the few EVs available on the local market that can accept 22 kW AC charging, on top of its 150 kW DC peak input (the Pro only nets 7 kW AC and 130 kW DC). This therefore sees smart to claim for a 10-80% top up taking only just 3 hours when connected to the peak AC supply, with it then taking only 30 minutes for the same charge when connected to the peak DC supply.

In terms of kit now, the smart #3 Pro’s sleek body is accented by a set of low drag 19-inch Flux Wheels and a panoramic glass roof. Interior highlights in turn includes a 12.8-inch central screen and 9.2-inch instrument cluster, as well as a supposed ‘new industry-first seat rivet design with headrest featuring the smart logo’.

Stepping up to the Premium then adds CyberSparksLED + Matrix Headlamps and an illuminated front Grille, as well as a set of 19-inch Torque alloys to its exterior. A 13-speaker Beats sound system, Automatic Parking Assistant (APA), ambient lighting and a 10-inch head-up display also make an appearance within this particular trim.

Finally onto the Brabus model meanwhile, 20-inch Synchro’ wheels with red brake calipers are joined by a slightly more prominent rear spoiler and a slit above the front smart logo for that more aggressive exterior aesthetic. The sportiness then continues within with the all black cabin accented by aluminium sports pedals, an alcantara wrapped steering wheel and red seat belts.

smart is to offer the #3 in 12 exterior color combinations, with the automaker claiming that this wide selection of options is a unique selling point that enables its customers to match any personality and style.

Now aside from the launch of its #3, smart Malaysia rather quietly launched its new smartCO programme as well. Essentially its take on an owners club, the Sino-German automaker has claimed for this new endeavour to ‘create vibrant communities of automotive enthusiasts and turn hobbies into successful business ventures’. This programme supposedly also ‘offers more business opportunities for smart owners and exclusive privileges from businesses promoted by smart owners’.

Though perhaps more pertinent to the owners of its EVs meanwhile is to be smart Malaysia’s continued effort in improving its charging network, with it currently claiming for the Hello smart App ecosystem to provide access up to 80% of nationwide charging stations with real-time charging information. The latest on this front is for its Malaysian distributors, PRO-NET, to have partnered with two additional Charging Point Operators (CPOs) – DC Handal and Carput Zap.

For those interested in checking out the #3 for themselves, smart Malaysia has recently also kicked off its first-ever smart Tour Brand Roadshow. This nationwide showcase touted by the automaker to ‘provide in-depth information and live demonstrations on the advanced features’ of its EVs, but what should really be highlighted here is for there to also be the chance of netting up to RM 30,000 off a #1 BRABUS during one of these events!

The schedule below for the smart Tour Brand Roadshow locations and dates:
