Honda’s CR-V Was Malaysia’s Top-Selling Mid-Size SUV In 2024

The CR-V was incidentally also the 3rd best-selling model in Honda Malaysia’s lineup last year.

Despite many critiques of it being too pricey, and with plenty of (cheaper Chinese) competition hot on its heels, it nevertheless appears that Malaysians are still very much keen on buying the new Honda CR-V, to the point of it becoming the best-selling mid-sized SUV over here in 2024.

With over 11,300 units sold last year, the current 6th iteration of CR-V comfortably beat out the Proton X70 for the mid-sized SUV sales crown in Malaysia by a margin of over 2,600 examples. Honda has also since revealed that 1 in 3 mid-sized SUVs sold over here in 2024 was to be its CR-V, as it commanded a dominant market share of 36% in the segment last year.

Though perhaps even more impressive is that its 2.0L e:HEV RS variant of CR-V holds a commanding 87% market share of the mid-sized hybrid SUV segment in Malaysia. This electrified trim nevertheless only makes up 20% of all CR-Vs sold last year, with the most popular trim instead to be the purely-petrol mid-spec E variant, which accounted for 40% of total sales last year.

The CR-V was incidentally the 3rd best-selling model in Honda Malaysia’s lineup in 2024. This mid-sized SUV just came in 500 units short of the runner-up Civic sedan at the final tally. The City (and its hatchback twin) meanwhile was comfortably in at first place on this list, with it incidentally managing the none-too-small achievement too of being the best-selling non-national car over here.

Launched in late 2023, the current 6th-generation CR-V is available locally in 4 variants. The three purely-petrol trims are the 1.5 S 2WD, 1.5L E 2WD and 1.5 V AWD, which retail for RM 159,900, RM 169,900 and RM 181,900 respectively. The sole hybrid 2.0L e:HEV RS variant on the other hand comes in at RM 195,900.
