GWM ORA 07 Electric Sedan Previewed Locally Ahead Of Launch

This 2nd addition to the local GWM lineup will be the first of three models to be launched in 2024.

Coming right after the announcement of its order books being open, Great Wall Motor Malaysia has followed up with a preview of its ORA 07 fully electric sedan to selected members of the media, ahead of its imminent local launch sometime in the next few weeks.

A direct competitor to the newly-launched BYD Seal and rather popular Tesla Model 3, the second addition to the local GWM lineup (after the cutesy ORA Good Cat) will be landing locally in two flavours: the Long Range and the Performance. Both of which feature the same 83.49 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, but differ slightly in terms of motor count.

Discussing further regarding the Long Range first, this particular variant nets a single front-mounted motor rated at a reasonable 204 PS and 340 Nm of torque. This in turn translates to a decent enough century sprint time of 8.5 seconds and top speed of 170 km/h, in addition to a more-than-decent NEDC-claimed 640 km of range on a single charge.

As for the Performance variant on the other hand, the addition of another motor to its rear axle helps in justifying its trim name by bumping combined power and torque output up to a much more sporty 480 PS and 680 Nm respectively. This hence sees for the 0-100 km/h charge in this particular flavour of ORA 07 to be dealt with in a rather swift 4.3 seconds, before finally running out of puff at a slightly higher top speed of 180 km/h.

In spite of the added power too, the ORA 07 Performance is still to be quoted as being capable of achieving a rather healthy 550 km on a single charge, according to the NEDC test cycle that is. And while on the topic of charging too, this all-electric sedan should be capable of supporting 11 kW AC charging and 88 kW DC fast charging.

Turning to what drapes its batteries now, the Ora 07’s bug-eyed face and liftback arse is book ended by an active shutter front grille and a Porsche Panamera-esque retractable rear spoiler. A healthy smattering of chrome accents meanwhile further provides some shiny chic to its admittedly streamlined shape, while retractable handles on its frameless doors should have gone some way in helping it achieve its extremely low drag coefficient of just 0.22 too.

Moving on inside, the admittedly Bugatti Chiron-esque central stack with vertical rotary dials is joined by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that is interestingly split across three old-style pods. Other amenities featured within the ORA 07 includes a full length panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control (with rear vents), a powered tailgate, electrically adjustable front seats with massaging function and an 11-speaker Harman Infinity sound system.

Worth highlighting too on the topic of kit is for the ORA 07 to come standard with the usual comprehensive suite of active safety tech. These include a lane departure system, LKA (lane keeping system), BSD (blind spot monitoring system), and supports functions such as 360º panoramic view camera, intelligent evasion, traffic sign recognition etc.

Differing the Long Range and Performance variants of the ORA 07 offered locally on the outside is the fitment of smaller 18-inch wheels on the former (as seen on all the cars shown here), with larger 19-inch rollers to be found on the latter. The sportier trim also nets brown leather upholstery within instead of black, as well as a selectable Sport+ mode in its driving mode selector.

Great Wall Motor Malaysia has announced that the ORA 07 will be available in three colours: Crystal Purple, Amethyst Gray and Jade White. As reported earlier too, interested parties who place an early booking for this particular all-electric sedan will receive a limited-time offer of a five-year free maintenance package (inclusive of parts and labour).

Unfortunately however, the price of the ORA 07 still remains elusive thus far, with it likely known upon its official local launch in the next few weeks. It is nevertheless shaping up to be a busy year for Great Wall Motor over here, as this sleek all-electric sedan comes ahead of the Haval H6 HEV and Tank 300’s debut in the second and third quarter of 2024.
