GAC Aion Y Plus e-MPV Launched Locally From RM 119,800

Early buyers of the Aion Y Plus are also entitled to either a Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Set or a “Me-Time” Mobile Theatre Set.

Following on from its preview earlier this year, the Aion Y Plus e-MPV has since made its local debut over here. This premiere model from GAC’s EV sub-brand to Malaysia lands fully-imported from China in ‘Elite’ and ‘Premium’ trims, with a price tag of RM 119,800 and RM 135,800 respectively.

Touted by GAC as being ‘your new plus one’, the GAC AION Y Plus is admittedly quite the cute little thing. And this cuteness is to be further accentuated from this e-MPV being available across seven vibrant exterior colour options, with an additional five exciting interior colourway choices within to enable anyone to properly personalise it to their tastes.

Key exterior design touches on the Aion Y Plus includes its Angel Wing LED headlights book-ending its rounded face up front, and a full width Skyline through-type LED light bar headlining proceedings round its rump. 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels are available on the Elite and Premium trims respectively, with both further accentuated by chunky wheel arch cladding to give the egg-shaped profile of this e-MPV a more SUV look.

Underpinning the Aion Y Plus is GAC’s AEP 2.0 dedicated EV platform, with this entailing a single front-mounted motor on this e-MPV, fed by a 63.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) type battery. Rated at 250 hp and 225 Nm of torque, the quoted century sprint time for this egg is a reasonable 8.5 seconds, with its maker further touting for the drivetrain to be ‘endowed with class-leading versatility thanks to the offer of up to four selectable driving modes that also includes an ‘i-Pedal’ single-pedal driving mode’.

Detailing more on the battery specs meanwhile, the Magazine Battery 2.0 is claimed in being capable at delivering up to an NEDC-rated 490 km of driving range in this current powertrain configuration. As for charging, the Aion Y Plus currently accepts 6.6 KW AC (Type 2) and up to 80 kW DC fast-charging (CCS2) inputs.

GAC further wishes to highlight that in addition to being energy dense, the ‘Magazine Battery 2.0’ sees its construction and housing stand as one of the world’s safest designs for energy stores as such. Part of its development saw the design being subjected to rigorous tests, including a shooting experiment using high-calibre, military-grade ballistics. In the said exercise, the battery was pierced through, but it did not explode or catch fire, highlighting its unique and safe design.

Moving away from shooting at the battery pack to what lies within now, key highlights within its rather roomy 5-seat cabin includes a six-way power-adjustable driver seat, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, a 6-speaker Bongiovi (not to be confused with Bon Jovi) hi-fi audio system and automatic climate control with dedicated rear vents plus built-in PM2.5 air filter.  A 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment are the two screens integrated into its minimalistic (read: button-free) dashboard, with the latter supporting Apple CarPlay function (but not Android Auto).

Exclusively primed in the Premium variant are notable additions such as driver seat ventilation, power-adjustable front passenger seat, wireless smartphone charging pad, as well as a 32-colour Ambient lighting suite with music mode. As for practicality, split-folding rear seats enables boot space expansion from 405 litres up to a maximum of 1,200 litres, with the higher-end trim of this e-MPV further adding convenience through a hands-free powered tailgate.

Like its style and tech, safety is also kept at a high level in the GAC AION Y Plus. At the core of which are the presence of six airbags lining the cabin, along with anti-lock braking system (ABS), Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Hill-Hold Control (HHC), 360º surround view camera and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

The top-tier Premium variant is however the only one to receive its suite of Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) features that enable Level 2 semi-autonomous driving. Included here are Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go function and Intelligent Cruise Assist, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane-Departure Warning (LDW) with Lane-Keeping Assist (LKA), as well as Traffic Jam Assist (TJA).

Touching more on the peace-of-mind front here, local distributors WTCA has also included a rather comprehensive warranty and after-sales package with this e-MPV. Buyers of the Aion Y Plus are entitled to an 8-year/160,000 km base vehicle warranty, in addition to an 8-year/200,000 km warranty on the EV battery, drive motor and electric control.

To further sweeten the deal too in conjunction with its official launch at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, WTCA is also currently offering a free 7 kW Home Wallbox Charger (worth RM 3,500) and RM 1,000 JomCharge Charging credits for the first 200 bookings of the GAC AION Y Plus. Additionally, while stocks last, said 200 early adopters will also get to choose from two specially curated accessories packages for their purchase of this e-MPV. Amongst them are:
