Chery Omoda 5 Earns 5 Star Safety Rating From ASEAN NCAP

The Chery Omoda 5 nets the full five-star safety rating by scoring 88.64 points in its assessment. 

While the Chery Omoda 5 may have had its reputation sullied somewhat by some recent safety scandals, this particular model from the Chinese automaker has nevertheless been deemed to be rather safe in an actual crash. Such is as it has since recently been awarded the coveted full five-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP, with a total accumulated score of 88.64 points in its assessment. 

The aforementioned 88.64 point score was totalled from the four assessment categories that ASEAN NCAP has defined under its 2021–2025 protocol. These categories consists of Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) where the Omoda 5 scored of 36.77 points, Child Occupant Protection (COP) where it scored 17.36 points, Safety Assist (SA) where it scored a staggeringly high 19.51 points out of a possible 20, and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category with 15.00 points.

The Omoda 5 is to be the first model under the Chery brand to be assessed by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). The variant tested by ASEAN NCAP here was the top-spec petrol-powered Omoda 5 H, which is locally assembled in Malaysia and set for markets including Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

ASEAN NCAP has stated that the Omoda 5 made a strong commitment in vehicle safety by offering a range of vehicle safety features as standard fitment across all its variants consisting of 6 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for frontal and rear seats occupants, standard fitment of rear seats occupant detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for both the driver and front passenger sides of the vehicle, Auto High Beam (AHB) and Pedestrian Protection (PP) technology. 

In addition, there are several advanced safety assist features that are available in the Omoda 5 either as standard or optional fitment. These features comprise Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA). 

Through this 5-Star achievement, ASEAN NCAP states that it hopes Chery will continue to ensure its other models marketed for the region meet the same performance as the Omoda 5. This will undoubtedly give the needed safety benefits for the ASEAN users to enjoy and subsequently help to reduce the high number of road fatalities the region is currently faced with.
