Mazda6 20th Anniversary Edition Launched In Malaysia

This special edition celebrates the 20th anniversary since the first generation Mazda6 was launched.

Apart from the mild update made to the Mazda3, the Mazda6 lineup has also been given a bit of the shakeup in the form of a newly introduced 20th Anniversary Edition. Intended to celebrate two decades since the first iteration of this large Japanese sedan was introduced, this special edition effectively replaces the existing top-tier variant of this sedan locally, and nets a few unique styling elements both inside and out relative to its common counterparts.

Now starting first on the outside, this special edition is most easily distinguished from the rest of the range through its new Gunmetal radiator grille and 19-inch Bright Metallic alloy wheels. Some special ‘20th Anniversary’ fender badges further denotes this variant’s special status, with this same logo being embossed on the front headrests too.

And continuing on the topic of what’s unique within this particular Mazda6 meanwhile, the 20th Anniversary Edition features tan Nappa Leather upholstery as well as a matte brown interior trim. This large Japanese sedan also comes equipped with ventilated front seats, a frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a rear-window sunshade, but unfortunately is still saddled with a decidedly last-generation 7-inch central infotainment touchscreen.

Mazda is nevertheless keen to tout that this special edition comes equipped Qi Wireless charging, which is incidentally now standard across the Mazda6 lineup too. Only the 20th Anniversary Edition and the 2.5L Touring variant however benefits from the new bevy of i-Activsense safety features, which include Front & Rear Smart Brake Support (SBS), Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with Stop & Go and Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS).

Upon mention of the 2.5L Touring variant though, it is worth highlighting that this special edition of the Mazda6 is only available locally with the 192 hp 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G naturally-aspirated four cylinder. The sedan can however still be had with a smaller 2.0-litre mill too, which in turn pumps out a slightly more modest 163 hp.

In total, there are currently 3 variants of the Mazda6 available in Malaysia. The prices for each variant is listed below, and is inclusive of a 5-year manufacturer warranty and 5-year free maintenance plan:

  • Mazda6 2.0L Sedan: RM 180,359.00
  • Mazda6 2.5L Touring: RM 230,848.00
  • Mazda6 2.5L High Plus Sedan ‘20th Anniversary Edition’: RM 240,848.00

The 20th Anniversary Edition is however currently the only Mazda6 to be available in an Artisan Red Premium exterior hue, which is a unique colour created through the automaker’s unique Takuminuri painting technology. According to Mazda, this particular colour ‘accentuates the strength and beauty that portrays a fine-grained transparent red that shines brightly with a dominant shade producing a profound depth with richness and rendering a high contrast’.

In any case, other variants of the Mazda6 available in Malaysia also now feature an expanded colour palette, with Platinum Quartz and Rhodium White Premium joining the ranks of Artic White, Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black, Machine Gray, Sonic Silver, Soul Red Crystal and Polymetal Gray.

The Mazda6 20th Anniversary Edition will be showcased at the Bermaz Auto Showcase event which will take place from 11th – 15th October 2023 at Oval Concourse, 1 Utama Shopping Centre from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Funnily enough though, it is perhaps worth pointing out now that the first Mazda6 was initially introduced in 2002, which for those who can count was 21 years ago from 2023. And Mazda had actually introduced this 20th Anniversary Edition Mazda6 in several international markets late last year. So why then are we only getting this special edition now?
