The BMW Group Sold 426,594 EVs Globally In 2024

The BMW Group experienced a decently healthy 13.5% year-on-year sales surge for its EVs in 2024.
The BMW Group has recently announced that it had delivered 426,594 fully-electric vehicles (BEVs) to customers worldwide in 2024, marking a significant 13.5% increase compared to the previous year.
Strong EV Performance Across All Brands
BMW’s EV sales performance showed remarkable strength across its entire brand portfolio:
- The core BMW brand delivered 368,523 fully-electric vehicles, achieving 11.6% year-on-year growth
- MINI recorded 56,181 EV deliveries, representing impressive 24.3% year-on-year growth
- Rolls-Royce saw extraordinary BEV expansion with 1,890 vehicles delivered, reflecting a whopping 479.6% increases
This electric momentum persisted even as the BMW brand successfully increased deliveries across all powertrain types in every sales region outside of China.
Electrification Progress
The BMW Group continues to advance its electrification strategy with 593,215 electrified vehicles (combining BEVs and plug-in hybrids) delivered to customers, representing nearly a quarter (24.2%) of its total sales in 2024. Fully-electric vehicles now account for 17.4% of the company’s global deliveries, demonstrating significant progress toward BMW’s sustainability goals.
Navigating Market Challenges
While the first half of 2024 maintained pace with previous-year performance, BMW Group faced significant headwinds in the latter half of the year, including:
- Delivery interruptions related to the Integrated Brake System (IBS)
- Reduced consumer demand in the crucial Chinese market
In response, BMW Group adjusted its annual sales guidance. The company ultimately delivered 2,450,804 vehicles globally in 2024, achieving its revised target despite these challenges.
Brand Sales Performance Highlights
The BMW brand maintained its position as the global segment leader with 2,200,177 vehicles delivered in 2024, despite a slight 2.3% decline in deliveries from 2023. European performance was particularly strong, with expanded market share and double-digit growth in key markets including Italy, France, and the United Kingdom. The United States also recorded positive growth, with German BEV registrations also increasing despite an overall declining electric vehicle market.
BMW M GmbH incidentally achieved a new all-time sales record as well in 2024, delivering 206,582 high-performance vehicles—a 2.1% increase year-over-year.
MINI, which undertook a complete product range refresh in 2024, delivered 244,915 vehicles globally, with fourth-quarter BEV sales nearly doubling compared to the same period in 2023. The brand sold 29,698 fully-electric vehicles in Q4 alone.
Rolls-Royce delivered 5,712 cars in 2024 (-5.3%), while BMW Motorrad achieved another record year with 210,408 motorcycles and scooters sold (+0.6%).
Regional Performance
BMW Group’s regional sales performance revealed diverse market conditions:
- Europe: Showed resilience with 947,235 units delivered (+0.6%)
- Asia: Faced challenges with 960,951 units delivered (-10.2%), heavily impacted by a 13.4% decline in China
- Americas: Maintained stability with 480,994 units delivered (+0.2%), supported by 0.5% growth in the United States
Future Outlook
“The BMW Group is maintaining its growth trajectory for fully-electric vehicles amid challenging market conditions. This is reflected in both the significant sales growth for fully-electric vehicles and the clear rise in new BEV orders in Europe,” said Jochen Goller, Board Member responsible for Customer, Brands, and Sales.
Looking ahead to 2025, Goller expressed confidence in continued BEV growth, supported by BMW’s expanded and strengthened product lineup across its electric vehicle portfolio.
