The 421 units of Proton e.MAS 7 registered in January 2025 was actually more than the next 3 best-selling EVs (all of which were BYD) combined.
As should be expected with it having already raked in over 3,000 bookings in just over a month since it launched in December, the Proton e.MAS 7 is Malaysia’s best-selling EV for the first month of this new year.
Based on the most recent registration data from the road transport department (JPJ), 421 units of this first-ever all-electric Proton have been fitted with number plates in its first full month on sale. And incidentally, that figure of 421 e.MAS 7s registered in January is actually to be exactly 30 units more than the next 3 best-selling EVs (all of which were BYDs) for last month combined.
Settling for runner up position in the local EV registration rankings for January 2025 was BYD’s Sealion 7, with 151 units being fitted with number plates over here last month. The third-place M6 MPV and Atto 3 compact SUV meanwhile saw 136 and 104 units registered respectively, with the top 5 finished off by the only non-Chinese car in the top 10, the BMW i5 with 103 units registered.
Looking further down the list still, the BYD Seal managed to secure 6th place with 95 registrations, while the Xpeng G6 and Zeekr 009 shares joint seventh spot with 81 units registered apiece. Rounding up the top 10 places are the cutesy GWM Ora Good Cat and 07 (43 units) and MG4 (41 units).
