Rimac Nevera R Rockets From 0-100 km/h In Just 1.81 Seconds

This new sporty flavour of the already mad-quick Rimac Nevera EV hypercar now packs 2,107 hp. 

When Rimac first unveiled its Nevera, the one thing that no one had a problem with was how fast it went. This quad-motored EV hypercar could after all already launch itself from 0-100 km/h in under 2 seconds before going on to max out at 412 km/h, with it even managing to clock a world-record top speed of 275.74 km/h in reverse!

Rimac themselves however had thought that their Nevera was still a bit too grand tourer in its stock form, and thus recently unveiled a new R version of the Nevera to better showcase its true sporting credentials. Or to hear the Croatian boutique hypercar marque put it: ‘the R shifts from Hyper GT into Hyper Sportscar’. 

As should go without saying already for any sporty variant, the Nevera R naturally has gained a modest power bump over its stock sibling. Though the term modest is relative here of course, as Rimac has managed to eke out a whole 200 more horses from quad-motored all-electric drivetrain for an almost incredulous total of 2,107 horsepower.  

The Nevera R currently stands as being only the second street car in the 2,000 horsepower club, after the Koenigsegg Gemera. Though funnily enough with nearly a normal family car’s worth of added power, this sportier Rimac’s quoted 0-100 km/h time of 1.81 seconds is technically unchanged from its supposed GT-spec standard sibling. 

Where this extra power does come into play however for the Nevera R is in its 0-300 km/h sprint, which is now down from 9.22 seconds to just 8.66 seconds. This sportier Rimac can also incidentally sprint from 0-200 km/h in 4.38 seconds, 100-200 km/h in 2.46 seconds and hit a top speed of 412 km/h. 

Though in terms of impressive speed stats with the Nevera R, the one Rimac is touting the loudest is that this sportier version goes round the Nardo Handling Track a good 3.8 seconds faster than the standard spec. And considering that this particular circuit is only 3.8 miles long with a 0.6-mile long straightaway, this means this sports version is a rather blisteringly quick one second faster per mile of track.

Now a large part of this quicker lap time has to do with the next-generation All-Wheel Torque Vectoring (R-AWTV) tech featured on the Nevera R, which has been tuned to suit its new standard-fit Michelin Cup 2 tyres (replacing the prior Pilot Sport 4S rubber). Rimac has also revised the steering rack on this sportier version to deliver sharper responses and crisper feedback, with its maker claiming that all these handling changes reduced maximum understeer by 10% and increase maximum lateral grip by 5%. 

To better cope with its extra bump in power as well too, the R now comes fitted with carbon-ceramic EVO2 brakes that feature a silicone matrix layer to help it stop as fast as it goes. This sports-spec all-electric hypercar also sports next-generation performance-oriented 108 kWh battery pack replacing the 120 kWh that came before in the standard car, with other associated lightening measures resulting in a token 35 kg weight saving from the Nevera’s near three-tonne kerb weight. 

Visually differentiating the R from the standard Nevera are a deeper front lip up front, as well as a larger diffuser and totally massive fixed wing round its rump. All these new aero add-ons supposedly boosts overall downforce by 15%, while simultaneously also increasing aerodynamic efficiency by 10%. 

Launched exclusively in Nebula green, the Nevera R will set prospective buyers back a cool £1.97 million (RM 11.3 million) before personalisation. Only 40 examples of this sporty spec will be built though, with it coming as part of the 150 unit run for this all-electric hypercar.
