This SUV is the first of many Nissan concepts to be revealed at the Japan Mobility Show later this month.
As expected for the biggest event on the Japanese automotive calendar, all the automakers from the Land of the Rising Sun has been steadily previewing what they are planning for the upcoming Japan Mobility Show that is to take place in Tokyo later this month. Mitsubishi has after all teased a new all-electric lifestyle van a couple weeks ago already, while Honda has since also previewed its plastic-bodied city car and hinted at an EV sports car concept.
Now though it is the turn of Nissan to finally showcase what it plans for this upcoming auto show. And the automaker has since decided to kick things off with the digital reveal of its Hyper Urban concept SUV, which is to be the first in a series of ‘all-electric concept vehicles’ that will be unveiled one-by-one leading up to the show’s press day on the 25th of October.
Being a concept, Nissan has unsurprisingly not provided much concrete details with the showcase of this Hyper Urban. Instead, the Japanese automaker has stated for its design to express the user’s discerning taste, while simultaneously ‘making a bold statement’ and also ‘effectively blending in with their environment’.
Going by how it actually looks however, the only environment that the Hyper Urban will be blending into would be a Tron-esque video game. That is as this chromatic lime yellow and black hyper-angular SUV concept looks exactly like what the Nissan Ariya will look like when put through a low-poly filter, albeit with funky some full-length scissor doors.
The angular theme continues within too, with Nissan claiming to draw inspiration for the interior of the Hyper Urban from ‘kaleidoscopic triangles’. Though even its polygon-tactic dashboard is just the tip of the craziness with this concept, as thanks to the front seats having the ability to collapse and fold into the back seats, the Japanese automaker is actually envisioning this future owners of this SUV to park their cars ‘inside a loft apartment or bungalow’ and treat its interior as a private relaxing space to unwind.
Amid all the madness though, this concept does nevertheless hint at some more plausible innovations that Nissan might adopt in its future offering. Chief among which being the instrument panel on the Hyper Urban, which is able to be replaced with a newer unit after a few years to reflect the latest technologies and trends in graphic user interfaces.
Nissan has also touted for the Hyper Urban to come with V2H functionality, which means that this SUV can supposedly provide power to the home. This concept apparently features an Intelligent Charging Management System too, which utilises AI to autonomously and efficiently manage the power distribution between charging the vehicle and powering the home.
As with all concepts, there is expectedly no word on when (or even if) Nissan will ever put the Hyper Urban into production. Though depending on how the rest of the other concepts look, we might well be seeing Nissan enter an angular design phase in its next product cycle.
