Volvo S60 T8 R-Design now available at RM295,888

The Volvo S60 T8 arrived in Malaysia late last year as a fully imported car and stirred the Malaysia market with its looks, selling price and performance. The immediate German rivals were a little worried at first and then when the first batch of fully imported cars were sold out, their worry increased a smidgen.

Volvo Car Malaysia brings all the dynamic ability, ground-breaking technology and striking Scandinavian design from the company’s latest models to the premium mid-size saloon segment. It is built at Volvo’s new Charleston plant in South Carolina, USA, on Volvo’s SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, which also underpins the award-winning S90, V60, V90, XC60 and XC90. It is the first modern Volvo to be sold without a diesel engine, signalling the company’s industry-leading commitment to electrification and a long-term future beyond the traditional combustion engine. As you’d expect from a Volvo, it also offers cutting-edge collision-avoidance and occupant-protection technology.

PRESS RELEASE: This car that has something for the road and something for the planet, the Volvo S60 T8 is now available as Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) units for the Malaysian roads. Similar to the current Completely Built-Up (CBU) variant, the Volvo S60 T8 CKD will only come in a single trim – the T8 R-Design.

Identical to its CBU variant, the Volvo S60 T8 CKD is powered by the award-winning T8 Twin Engine e-AWD plug-in hybrid and can deliver a total output of 407 hp and 640 Nm of torque. Its electric motor outputs 87 hp and 240 Nm of torque while its Drive-E petrol engine, equipped with supercharger and turbocharger technology, produces 320 hp and 400 Nm of torque. This translates into a 0-100 km/h run in a mere 4.4 seconds.

“Being a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the S60 T8 CKD not only helps to minimise exhaust emissions, but also offers exhilarating acceleration and performance. In a sense, it is a vehicle that lets you recharge by giving you control over amazing performance, whilst helping the world recharge via a cleaner environment,” said Nalin Jain, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

To recharge the world, Volvo is not only taking the initiative to introduce PHEVs but also purely electric vehicles with the aim to reduce its carbon footprint per vehicle by 40 per-cent between 2018 and 2025. It is also making a change from its supply chain itself – Volvo is the first car manufacturer to use blockchain technology to monitor and trace cobalt throughout the supply line, meaning that the battery packs used in the S60 T8 CKD are sourced responsibly.

Joining Volvo’s line-up of luxurious vehicles, the Volvo S60 T8 CKD’s interior is the very definition of Scandinavian beauty. Owners can comfortably enjoy the open roads in contoured seats that are made with exclusive Charcoal Fine Nappa Leather with Open Grid Textile upholstery and a tailored dashboard. Adding to the ambience is an immersive 14-speaker system powered by Harman Kardon that is linked to a Sensus Connect infotainment system. Volvo Cars’ Sensus Connect infotainment system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keeping drivers connected at all times. The intuitive control is a tablet-style touch screen interface that combines car functions, navigation and in-car entertainment apps.

The Volvo S60 T8 CKD is underpinned by Volvo Cars’ own Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, safety technology and infotainment system, which is used in the top-of-the-line 90 Series cars, the award-winning XC60, now the S60 T8 CKD.

On the subject of safety, the Volvo S60 T8 CKD offers City Safety with Autobrake technology, which assists the driver in avoiding potential collisions and is the only system in the market to recognise pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. In a world-first for the mid-size sedan segment, City Safety now also engages auto braking to mitigate oncoming collisions.

The Pilot Assist system – which supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130km/h – has been upgraded with improved cornering performance. The Volvo S60 T8 CKD also includes Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering assistance systems. The Cross Traffic Alert further enhances safety for people inside and outside the car designed to detect traffic crossing behind the car when reversing.

“The S60 T8 CKD is an amazing driver’s car, as it combines precision handling, sporty performance and our legendary legacy for safety. And with the CKD variant now available here in Malaysia, we are giving our customers the ability to experience the best of luxury and performance,” Nalin added.

The Volvo S60 T8 CKD will be priced at RM295,888 (on-the-road, without insurance, inclusive of excise duty and sales tax) and will be available for viewing at all authorised Volvo dealers nationwide starting today. At the same time, the Volvo S60 T8 CKD will also be made available for booking online through Volvo Car Malaysia’s website as a safer alternative and in adherence to the government’s advice on social distancing.

Customers will have the option to choose among four distinct colours: Crystal White Pearl, Fusion Red Metallic, Onyx Black Metallic and Pebble Grey Metallic.
