Volvo Malaysia Extends PHEV Battery Warranty To 8 Years

This extended battery warranty retroactively applies to all PHEV Volvo models sold since 2015.

Existing plug-in hybrid Volvo owners are all treated to a little Christmas gift from Volvo Malaysia this year in the form of trouble-free hybrid motoring for a few more years to come.

This is because Volvo Malaysia has recently announced that it is extending its warranty coverage for all hybrid batteries in its Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) range to 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first. Having been implemented on all new Volvos sold since the 1st of January this year, this extended battery warranty now retroactively applies to all Volvo PHEVs sold since the launch of the first Volvo PHEV in Malaysia back in December 2013.

According to Nalin Jain, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, this retroactive extension of the warranty on older PHEV Volvos is as a form of ‘gratitude to the early adopters and also for those who are striving to make a more sustainable decision’. Before this, Volvo Malaysia only offered a 5 year warranty on these PHEV batteries.

Currently, the local Volvo PHEV lineup consists of the XC60 mid-sized SUV, XC90 large SUV, S90 executive sedan and the S60 mid-sized sedan. The latter having just recently debuting in locally-assembled T8 R-Design form in May of this year.

PRESS RELEASE: With the company taking active steps to meet its climate vision, Volvo Car Malaysia is closing off the year on a greener note by extending the warranty coverage to 8 years or 160,000 km –whichever comes first – for all hybrid batteries for its Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) range.

Earlier in March 2020, Volvo Car Malaysia announced an extended hybrid battery warranty coverage which was eligible for new Volvo vehicles registered from 1 January 2020 onwards. However, due to the enthusiastic response from customers and realising the positive impact that long-term electrification can bring to the environment, the offer now applies to all Volvo PHEVs purchased since the launch of the XC90 T8 PHEV on 3 December 2015.

Nalin Jain, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia said: “As we continue our journey into sustainability, we are happy to announce this new, extended warranty coverage for our customers who have purchased any Volvo PHEVs since the launch of our first XC90 PHEV in Malaysia. This is our way of showing gratitude to the early adopters and also for those who are striving to make a more sustainable decision.”

This year, Volvo Car Malaysia launched the S60 T8 R-Design CKD in May 2020, and it joined Volvo’s line-up of premium, safe and sustainable PHEVs, including the XC60, XC90, and S90.

#MyVolvoJourney Contest

In addition to the extended warranty coverage offering, Volvo Car Malaysia is taking this festive time to honour their dedicated service staff and reward customers with exciting weekly prizes and a grand prize for their #MYVolvoJourney contest, beginning from 4 December to 31 December 2020.

Customers who take their car for service or repair at any authorised Volvo car service centres within the contest period, under strict adherence to the SOPs set by the government, will be eligible to participate in the #MyVolvoJourney contest, simply by registering through a QR code provided by the service centre. Participants will need to present a proof of service and write a short, creative story of their Volvo service experience to enter the pool of submissions.

Ten weekly winners will receive a Sandqvist Leather Tote bag worth RM2,146 and three grand prize winners will each ring in the new year with a Thule Travel bag set worth RM7,753. Weekly winners will be announced every Friday, beginning 11 December 2020 while the winners of the grand prizes will be announced on 8 January 2021.  Those who have won the weekly prizes will be removed from the submission pool. However, previous winners would still be in the running to win the grand prize.

“This year has been very challenging for everyone, which is why we are most grateful to our customers for their steadfast support and our dedicated service teams who are always ready to address our customers’ needs despite the difficult circumstances we faced this year. As such, we hope this holiday contest will encourage our customers to reflect and share their meaningful Volvo story as a form of support for our hardworking service teams, while at the same time enable us to reward our customers for taking the initiative to ensure their vehicles are in good running condition” concludes Nalin.
