Updated Toyota Innova Now On Sale Locally

The mildly refreshed Innova is now available in all Toyota dealerships nationwide.

Much like when the Innova’s order books were opened at the same time as the Fortuner’s one late last year, the recent local launch of the Toyota SUV has also coincided with the launch of the its MPV stablemate.

Nevertheless, while the flashier, more expensive Fortuner may be the one nabbing more of the headlines, this refreshed family-friendly minivan also is worth a mention. While the three trim levels remain as before, with the base-spec 2.0 E, mid-level 2.0 G and top-tier 2.0 X, this most recent facelift has brought with it some interior and exterior updates, as well as some active safety tech too.

Appearance-wise, the updated Innova features restyled fog lamp clusters and shaper-looking black and chrome grille up front. This black and chrome treatment then continues down the side and to the back of this MPV with chrome door handles, chrome wing mirror housings with integrated turn signals and a redesigned rear garnish on the back door finished in black.

Additionally, the top-tier 2.0 X variant adds reprofiled black roof spoiler, lightweight Dark Mica Metallic 17-inch wheels, new body mouldings and side skirts. Part of what Toyota calls an ‘Enhancement Package’, these add-ons supposedly gives the Innova that SUV aesthetic which is all the rage these days.

Under the hood meanwhile, the Innova retains the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as its pre-facelift counterpart. Outputting the same 139 PS and 183 Nm of torque, this reasonable amount of power is sent to the rear wheels via the carry-over six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission.

Stepping inside, the 2.0 G and 2.0 X trim levels get an Optitron instrument cluster with an integrated 4.2-inch full colour Multi Information Display (MID). A 9-inch central touchscreen with integrated 360º Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) is also standard on higher two variants in the Innova lineup, as is Toyota Vehicle Telematics System (VTS), which is only available as a cost option on the base-spec model.

For even greater family-friendliness, more USB ports with fast charging capability have been added in all variants, with two in the dashboard and one for the third-row seating. A charging pad in the centre console meanwhile is available as an option.

As for safety features, the facelifted Innova retains all of its passive safety acronyms. To add to that, this particular Toyota minivan has also managed to secure a maximum 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, thanks to the standard 7 airbags and third-row auto-retracting seatbelts.

Toyota however has only added the bare amount of active safety kit to this facelifted family hauler, which comes in the form of the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) systems. Moreover, this feature is only standard on the higher two trim levels, with it being an option on the base trim Innova 2.0 E.

Backed by a five-year unlimited milage warranty, prices for the Innova start at RM 111,622 for the base 2.0 E variant, before rising to RM 121,483 and RM 129,677 for the mid-spec G and top-tier X trim levels respectively. All the prices denoted here are inclusive of the SST sales tax exemption, which since has been extended till the 30th of June 2021.

PRESS RELEASE: UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) has launched the new 2021 Toyota Innova range with updated styling and features as well as additional safety systems being made standard. As before, the new Innova is available in three variants with the following prices:

  • Toyota Innova 2.0X – from RM129,677
  • Toyota Innova 2.0G – from RM121,483
  • Toyota Innova 2.0 E – from RM111,622

There are six exterior colour choices – Medium Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Phantom Brown, Silver Metallic, Super White II and Bronze Mica Metallic (new). For the Innova 2.0X, there is an additional choice of Crimson Spark Red Metallic.

Subtle changes have been made for the 2021 Innova to give a more refined and prestigious look. The grille has a chrome and black theme while the door mirrors have chrome housings for a touch of class. The foglamps and foglamp bezels have also been redesigned and contribute to giving a bolder appearance.

An Enhancement Package is included with the Innova 2.0X. This exclusive package has new design for wheel arch mouldings for protecting the bodywork, new bodyside mouldings and redesigned side skirts that add a sporty touch.

At the rear, the garnish on the back door has been restyled to visually widen the vehicle, while the roof spoiler (only for the Innova 2.0X) has been slightly reprofiled for aerodynamic improvements.

The wheels are maintained with the flagship Innova 2.0X having 17-inch alloy wheels finished in a new Dark Grey Metallic colour and fitted with 215/55R17 tyres. For the Innova 2.0G and 2.0E, the alloy wheels have a 16-inch diameter in a refreshed dual-tone finish and are fitted with 205/65R16 tyres.

Both the Innova 2.0X and Innova 2.0G come with high-quality Optitron meters in the instrument panel which provide bright and clear displays in all lighting conditions. Between the meters is a 4.2-inch full colour Multi Information Display (MID) that keeps the driver informed of fuel consumption and range available with the remaining fuel in the tank.

Responding to customer feedback, more charging ports have been added. The front 2 USB ports have been repositioned in the dashboard from the centre console and additional USB ports has been provided for those in the third row of seats. All the ports have Fast Charging capability for compatible smartphones and other portable devices. Additionally, a wireless charging pad in the centre console is also available as an option for all variants.

For 2021, additional features have been added to give the driver greater awareness of the surroundings to improve safety. The first is the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), standard for the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G and optional for the Innova 2.0E. The systems use sensors on the body and bumpers to detect other vehicles in the blind spot or approaching from either side during reversing out of a parking bay.

Also provided as standard for the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G is the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM). This uses cameras around the bodywork to capture a 360-degree view around the vehicle. The driver can view the surroundings (with selectable views) and spot hazards to avoid. The PVM is especially useful when parking in narrow or tight parking spaces.

All variants are fitted with 7 SRS airbags and every one of the occupants on all three rows has a 3-point auto-retracting seatbelt. All variants also have ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), as well as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).

The extensive standard safety systems that are provided as entire Innova range has made it possible for the Innova to receive the maximum 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. Contributing to this is the strong body structure which resist deformation while also dissipating impact energy before it can harm the occupants.

Besides the standard electronic security system, to provide greater peace of mind to owners, UMWT is now installing a Toyota Vehicle Telematics System (VTS) as standard in the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G, optional for the Innova 2.0E. This system can track the vehicle’s movements using GPS and GSM technology. If the vehicle is stolen, the VTS Command Centre can determine its location and inform relevant authorities to make recovery faster.

The Innova continues to be powered by a 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine with high fuel efficiency and strong midrange torque. With enhanced combustion efficiency, the lightweight engine produces 139 ps at 5,600 rpm and 183 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm which goes to the rear wheels. All variants are fitted with a 6-speed Super ECT electronic automatic transmission (Super ECT).

As with most of the models offered by UMWT, there is a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage, subject to terms and conditions.

Viewing and test-drives are available at all Toyota showrooms nationwide. Locations of all showrooms can be found at www.toyota.com.my or by calling the Toyota Freephone at 1800- 8-TOYOTA (869682).
