Toyo Malaysia Launches Its New Proxes CR1 Tyres Locally

An all-new range of Toyo CR1 tyres are now available in Malaysia for a variety of tyre sizes. 

Toyo has recently added a new model to its ever expanding Proxes range of tyres locally with the launch of its new CR1 and CR1 SUV tyres. First unveiled in Thailand earlier this year, this all-new tyre model will be the successor of the outgoing NanoEnergy 3 model. 

Touting the Japanese tyre manufacturer’s proprietary T-MODE and Nano Balance technology, this new heavy-duty premium class tyre claims to provide a reduction in road noise, while also offering ‘superior performance’ in both wet and dry road conditions. 

On the noise front, the new CR1 model features several integrated technologies to dampen road noise, among which is the silent wall and out-in different pitch arrangement collaborate to disperse pitch noise. These new tyres also feature an integrated protection sheet within the tyre to reduce casing noise. Thus leading to an apparent 11% reduction in road noise when compared to its predecessor. 

Speaking of its predecessor, the CR1 is said to also offer a lower rolling resistance, which helps improve fuel economy, not to mention a 2% improved reduction in aquaplaning on wet road conditions over its predecessor. This is thanks to the wide circumferential grooves on this new tyre design, which helps disperse water from the contact patch at a much higher rate than before. 

Continuing on the topic of the new tyre design, the new triple taper and rib design, in addition to the multi-wave sipes, featured on the CR1 also means that these new tyres will be less prone to uneven wear. Therefore, in theory, these new tires should be able to last more miles on the rough Malaysian roads. 

36 different sizes of these new Toyo CR1 tyres are available for passenger cars, ranging from 14 inches to 18 inches. Its CR1 SUV equivalent meanwhile will be offered in 9 sizes that span 17 to 19 inch rims sizes. The full list of available tire sizes is down below. 

These tyres will be available for purchase from all Toyo and Silverstone centres nationwide, with prices for the passenger car tyres beginning from RM 160 for the smallest tyre size, and go all the way to RM 440 for the bigger tyre sizes. Prices for CR1 SUV tyres on the other hand range from RM 380 to RM 580, depending on tyre size. 

In conjunction with these newly launched model range of tyres, every purchase of a set of four Toyo Proxes CR1 tyres will come with a free limited edition Proxes CR1 umbrella, while stocks last of course.

On dry roads, the triple taper and rib design improves the performance by securing rib rigidity and suppresses circumferential fluctuation resulting in less uneven wear. In addition, the multi-wave sipes help in the prevention of irregular wear by ensuring block stiffness and a joint-less cap ply improves high speed performance.

High-Grade – In terms of overall performance, the Proxes CR1 produces 11 per cent less road noise and 2 per cent improved reduction in aquaplaning for better performance on wet roads as compared to its predecessor, the Nano Energy 3. The Proxes CR1 has lower rolling resistance for better fuel consumption. 

Comfort – The Proxes CR1 is designed to provide a smoother and relaxing drive utilising Toyo’s proprietary advanced technologies – T-Mode and Nano Balance.

Tengku Djan Ley, Malaysia’s professional drift driver had the opportunity to test the Proxes CR1 first-hand on his Mercedes-Benz C230. His feedback was that the tyre noise level is minimal and he felt comfortable and safe driving both on highways and ordinary roads.  

Proxes CR1 passenger car tyres are available in 36 sizes, ranging from 14 to 18 inch rim diameters, while the Proxes CR1 SUV tyres are available in 9 sizes, ranging from 17 to 19 inch rim diameters (see fact sheet). The recommended retail prices for Proxes CR1 passenger car tyres range from RM160 to RM440, while Proxes CR1 SUV tyres range from RM380 to RM580, depending on tyre size. These tyres are available at Toyo Centres and Silverstone Centres throughout Malaysia.

The new Proxes CR1 was virtually launched via Facebook Live on 19^th November.
