The MG Cyberster Is The First All-Electric Roadster In Malaysia
This all-electric Cyberster drop top is currently on sale locally with a price tag of RM 319,900.
For Malaysians who want the wind in their hair but no petrol fumes up their noses, there is finally the car for you with the recent local debut of the MG Cyberster! This all-electric scissor-doored drop-top sports car makes landfall over here after arriving in our neighbours to the north, though it is still in a class of one here if talking about sunshine machines with no tail pipes.
Previously initially previewed over here in August before the order books were open in October, the Cyberster lands locally in only one high-spec variant with a duty-free price tag of RM 319,900. Prospective buyers of this all-electric drop-top will also be entitled to the following purchasing benefits:
- 7-year or 150,000km Mileage Vehicle Warranty
- 8-year or 180,000km Mileage High-Voltage Battery Pack
- 8-year or 160,000km Mileage Drive Motor and Motor Control Unit
- 1-year Unlimited Charging with JomCharge and Auto Charge Function
- Complimentary 7kW Wallbox Charger
Featuring an exterior aesthetic that apparently is inspired by the iconic MG B, the Cyberster’s sleek silhouette is led by a shark nose front fascia with almond-shaped LED headlights and a split lower air intake. A power-retractable cloth top meanwhile is featured in the middle and can be deployed in 15 seconds at up to 48 km/h, though probably the more visually-impressive bit of kit down its flank is its pair of scissor doors that gives this sports car a Lamborghini flair.
Further adding to the sporty flair of this roadster here are set of 20-inch Jetstream alloy wheels on each corner, from which behind them lies some similarly racy red brake calipers. And despite its thoroughly Chinese origins, a set of stylised Union Jack light signatures on the rump of this Cyberster nevertheless proudly promotes MG’s British past.
Now when it comes to cashing the cheques written by its sporty looks, the sole variant of Cyberster available locally comes with a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that outputs a combined 503 PS and 725 Nm of torque. This thus sees for the MG to be capable of a sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, and then charge all the way up a suitably sports car V-Max of 210 km/h.
Thanks to it supporting up to 150 kW DC rapid charging too, the Cyberster can also top up its 77 kWh pack (good for 446 km of WLTP rated range by the way) from 10% to 80% in a rather speedy 38 minutes. But unfortunately with only a 7 kW peak when connected to an AC supply, charging it through a wall box from 10% to full will instead take a not-at-all quick 10.5 hours.
Inside the Cyberster, its twin electrically-adjustable seats come wrapped in Nappa leather with Alcantara inserts. The driver then has the luxury of gripping onto the similarly leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel, which comes immediately ahead of a 10.25-inch digital instrument display.
The fully digital driver’s display is by far from the only screen within this high-tech MG however, as there are two 7-inch auxiliary displays on either side for controlling the infotainment and other vehicular functions, in addition to another 7-inch touchscreen on the centre console for the dual-zone climate controls. Other tech toys worth highlighting within the Cyberster meanwhile include for it to feature an 8-speaker Bose audio system, as well as a whole raft of active driver aids coming as part of the MG Pilot ADAS suite.
Four colours will be available with the Cyberster upon its local launch, with these being Dynamic Red, Camden Grey, Inca Yellow, and English White. All colour options will be paired with a black roof. The Dynamic Red and Camden Grey options feature black and red interiors, while Inca Yellow and English White come with grey interiors.
