Subaru Shows Off A Songket-Inspired Livery For Its BRZ & WRX
This custom-liveried BRZ & WRX makes up Subaru’s ‘Tokyo Auto Salon: Kuala Lumpur Edition’ lineup.
While a set of seven stars or a yellow number 555 is likely be what most people envision when considering liveries for their Scoobies, TC Subaru Sdn. Bhd, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles over here, however believes that there might just be a more Malaysian way to decorate one’s boxer-engined sports car, and thus has recently unveiled a custom songket-inspired livery for its BRZ & WRX Tokyo Auto Salon: Kuala Lumpur Edition.
Both these dressed-up Scoobies kick things off with a base colour that is half vibrant pink and half deep blue, with the aforementioned Songket-inspired style then appearing as a pattern inset within the yellow go-faster stripes. The WRX incidentally goes for a thicker solid stripe design on its doors and bonnet, likely to better match its more macho demeanour; while the daintier BRZ nets a sportier streaking stripe style instead.
Also making a showing on these custom-liveried Subarus are some similarly yellow Bunga Raya flowers on the rear three-quarters, which replace the usual Sakura that the Pleides marque prefers to represent their company. The livery was designed in collaboration with Motorsport Playground, with the stated goal being to ‘bring together the heart of Japanese engineering and the rich elements of Malaysian heritage’.
Now to those who might have taken a fancy to these dressed-up Subarus seen here, you’ll probably be pleased to note that both the BRZ and WRX Tokyo Auto Salon: Kuala Lumpur Edition will actually be up for sale at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur (get 10% off with code AUTOMACHA10), which will be taking place at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from 8 to 10 November 2024. Prices for both these custom-liveried Subarus have unfortunately not been officially unveiled yet, but expect it to command a slight premium over the RM 268,500 and RM 289,500 that the coupe and sports sedan currently retail over here.
It is worth highlighting here however that the livery is essentially all that separates these custom Scoobies seen here from its common counterparts, with nothing extra having been added within or under the hood. Though as Subaru would like to point out from their results from a recent time attack challenge held at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit, both these cars as is are still to be more than capable of cracking fast laps round the track.
Driven by professional racer Freddie Ang, the Subaru BRZ with manual transmission clocked in at 02:42:211. The WRX with a CVT on the other hand recorded a time of 02:43:472 for the full circuit.
Aside from cars, TC Subaru Sdn. Bhd. has also partnered with local streetwear company Pestle & Mortar Clothing for an exclusive line of clothing that ‘beautifully blends the precision and craftsmanship of both Japanese and Malaysian cultures’. The round-neck tee and race shirt is set to retail for RM 139 and RM 299 respectively, with both to be available for purchase at Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur.
