MG4 Named Best EV Under €40,000 At The Fully Charged Awards

The MG4 beat out 8 other competitors to nab this gong at the inaugural Fully Charged Awards.

MG seems to have a bit of a hit on their hands with their newly-launched MG4 over in Europe. Such is because not only has it been flying out of dealerships in the old continent, with over 62,000 units delivered since its arrival over there in 2022, this all-electric Chinese hatchback has also recently came up on top in the best EV under €40,000 (RM 203,000) category at the inaugural Fully Charged award.

In that particular category, this all-electric Chinese successfully beat out over eight other nominees to take the eventual gong. Its competitors included the BYD DOLPHIN 60.4 kWh, Cupra Born 150 kW, Dacia Spring Electric 65 Extreme, Fiat 500e Hatchback 42 kW, Hyundai Kona Electric 39 kWh, Jeep Avenger Electric, Ora Funky Cat 48 kWh and Volvo EX30 Single Motor.

Commenting on this recent win by the MG4, Aiden He, CEO of MG Nordic en BeNeLux, MG head of BeNeLux stated: “This is another remarkable recognition of our commitment to making electric mobility accessible to all European drivers. Let’s embark the new electric lifestyle together and keep charging forward towards the future!”

Held for the first time in 2022 during the Fully Charged LIVE Europe event at the RAI in Amsterdam, the Fully Charged Awards was billed as the first ‘Consumer Choice’ awards for clean energy and electric vehicles. This particular event sought to bring together leaders and pioneers from across the electrification sector to celebrate the direction of the EV transition, as well as the acceleration of renewables and the smart homes of tomorrow.

The award nominees were selected after a large-scale survey of the Fully Charged SHOW audience, after which the first candidates were selected by the team itself, plus a panel of 15 energy and transport experts, before the finalists were chosen in each of the 15 categories. The winners of each category from this award are as follows:

  • Best Large-Scale Energy Project – Eden Project by Eden Geothermal
  • Best Energy Supplier – Octopus Energy
  • Best Home Energy Project – Kensa ‘Heat the Streets’
  • Best Micro Mobility EV – Carver S+
  • Best Commercial EV – VW ID. Buzz Cargo
  • Best Large-Scale EV – Ampere, Norwegian Electric Ferries
  • Best EV Charging Network – Tesla Supercharger Network
  • Best Innovative EV Manufacturer – Tesla
  • Best Sustainable EV Manufacturer – Polestar
  • Best Small EV (less than 1600 kg unladen) – Fiat 500e
  • Best Energy Efficient EV – Tesla Model 3 Long Range
  • Best EV > €60,000 – Porsche Taycan
  • Best EV > €50,000 & < €60,000 – Tesla Model Y
  • Best EV > €40,000 & < €50,000 – Tesla Model 3
  • Best EV < €40,000 – MG4

Though perhaps more pertinent to Malaysians is for this particular award-winning MG to soon be making its local debut sometime within the next few months. Guesstimates for its eventual selling price over here is currently to start from around RM 109,000 for the smaller battery variant with 325 km of range, while the top-flight dual-motored 400 hp hot XPower trim is apparently to only be retailing for RM 140,000.
