Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Debuts Locally In CKD Form

This Pekan-assembled Mercedes-Benz SUV arrives wearing a price tag of RM 378,888.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has recently debuted a locally-assembled variant of its GLC 300 4Matic. Coming just a short 5 months after the German automaker initially launched the fully-imported iteration over here, its CKD replacement has provided a welcome drop in price from its rather steep initial RM 429,888 price tag to a more palatable RM 378,888.

Rather pleasantly too, this assembled-in-Pekan Benz SUV didn’t actually lose any of the flourishes or fittings with the significant drop in price over its fully-imported counterpart. In fact, this CKD GLC even gains a panoramic sliding sunroof, which is an admittedly intriguing addition for a car that is to be sold in a country where the temperature is consistently set to roastingly hot.

Only available in the sole AMG Line variant locally, the locally-assembled GLC 300 4MATIC brings with it a somewhat sportier exterior aesthetic courtesy of an AMG front apron with sporty air intakes and chrome trim element along with a diffuser-look rear apron. The outside of this Mercedes-Benz SUV is further enhanced by DIGITAL LIGHT LED headlights up front, aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs and 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels round the side, as well as chrome tailpipe trims on its rump.

Moving on inside meanwhile, the black ARTICO synthetic leather and MICROCUT microfibre-lined cabin is accentuated by AMG sports pedals and a multi-function sports steering wheel covered in nappa leather. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch central infotainment display running the latest MBUX infotainment system are to be the two main screens found within the cabin, which are then joined by other associated tech goodies like a 15-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system, a powered tailgate and a 360º reversing camera with Active Parking Assist.

As for what lies under the hood, the GLC 300 4MATIC features a 2.0-litre mild hybrid turbocharged four-cylinder that is capable of outputting a combined 258 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Mated to a 9-speed automatic, this near 2-tonne all-wheel drive SUV is claimed to achieve a century sprint in 6.2 seconds and charge onwards to a top speed of 240 km/h.

Much like all Mercedes-Benz in Malaysia, the GLD 300 4MATIC is also to be available under the Step Up Agility+ Plan financing package. Monthly instalments for this particular locally-assembled SUV starts from just RM 2,988, before the addition of insurance coverage and service maintenance plans.

PRESS RELEASE: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia proudly introduces the locally-assembled GLC following the successful launch of the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC earlier this year. Proudly assembled in the brand’s production facility in Pekan, Pahang, the GLC reaffirms its position as a segment leader.

Exterior highlights

The new GLC is immediately recognisable as a member of the Mercedes-Benz SUV family. The expressive design of the AMG Line adds a sporty and exclusive touch to the exterior. The body design is characterised by a full, spanned surface design enriched with precisely shaped edges in the sides. These edges not only highlight the vehicle’s proportions but also accentuate the muscular wheel arches and creates a balance between elegance and off-road capability. The new GLC comes equipped with polished aluminium roof rails and aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs. The AMG bodystyling consists of AMG front apron with sporty air intakes and chrome trim element along with a diffuser-look AMG rear apron. The addition of the Panoramic sliding sunroof provides a bright and pleasant ambience in the interior. When viewed from the outside, the large sliding sunroof likewise makes a unique visual impression, as it lends lightness and exclusivity to the exterior.

Other features of the sporty, confident appearance are the wide track and flush 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels and the radiator grille showcasing the distinctive Mercedes-Benz pattern. The new rear design comes with the simulated underguard in chrome look, the tailpipe trims in chrome as well as the two-part rear lights with three-dimensional design, which are connected by a glossy black trim element.

The new GLC comes with DIGITAL LIGHT, constantly adapting the illumination of the road to the lighting conditions, the traffic situation, the course of the road and the weather. The outcome is outstanding visibility for the driver while not affecting the visibility of fellow road users.

Interior highlights

The GLC 300 4MATIC is available as a sole variant featuring the AMG Line interior, that lends your vehicle a more visible and tangible sense of sportiness.

The AMG Line includes several key features such as ARTICO man-made leather upholstery in black, MICROCUT microfibre and the AMG sports pedals. The multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather stands out with its distinctive design, featuring double spokes in the horizontal position and a flattened bottom section, drawing inspiration from motorsport and enhancing the cockpit’s dynamic aesthetic appeal.

The dashboard is clearly structured: the upper section exhibits a wing-like shape profile with newly designed flattened round nozzles, reminiscent of an aircraft’s engine nacelles. The lower section has a generous trim area that seamlessly blends into the curved centre console with a metal-structure finish. Positioned in front of the driver, the 12.3-inch (31.2 cm) high-resolution display screen appears to hover freely before the wing profile and trim area. The 11.9-inch (30.2 cm) central display rises seamlessly and without joints from the centre console creating a floating appearance above the trim area. Both the dashboard and screen surfaces are subtly angled towards the driver for optimal visibility and convenience.

The new GLC upholds its high standards in every aspect. For instance, the latest generation of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system elevates the vehicle’s digital capabilities and intelligence. Full-screen navigation gives the driver the best possible route guidance equipped with MBUX Augmented Reality. Experience greater audio performance via the exquisite Burmester® 3D surround sound system with 15 high-performance speakers tuned to match the vehicle interior.

The increased rear overhang results in a significantly larger luggage capacity of 620 litres, offering practicality for daily use, family vacations, and everyday transport needs. The GLC has HANDS-FREE ACCESS making loading and unloading a stress-free process. The sensor area beneath the rear bumper detects a kicking motion with the foot allowing the tailgate to open and close with a contactless function.

The GLC features the new Parking package with 360-degree camera and the functions of Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC. This combination ensures optimal visibility from all angles and facilitates the full parking process. In off-road mode, the GLC with 360-degree camera provides a “transparent bonnet” on the central display, offering a virtual view beneath the front of the vehicle, inclusive of the front wheels and their steering position.
